Loss of Sensation (Numbness)

Deep massage is not to be performed on any area where the client has lost the ability to sense pain or touch.  In a condition such as this, tissues may become bruised and the client will not feel any pain.  Late phase diabetes, syringo-myelia, spinal cord or brain damage, nerve root or peripheral nerve compression, intoxication, drug use (including pharmaceutical)  and strokes are all contitions which can result in a loss of sensation.  Gentle massage is advised.
