As you know, massage can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of muscular tissue, improve posture and reduce blood pressure.  Massage is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety, boost your immune system and create an overall sense of well-being.  Once you have determined that massage is right for you, consider the following techniques that may be incorporated into your massage session.

Swedish Massage

The most common form of massage, Swedish mainly relaxes the muscles and eases muscle aches and pains.  Also, like other massage techniques, it improves circulation & boosts the immune system.

Myro-therapy/Deep Tissue

This is the combination of sports massage, deep tissue, Hellerwork and Trigger Point Therapy.  This method is used to re-pattern contracted and constricted muscles.  This is a more aggressive technique and very effective in treating conditions like sciatica and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, among others.

Reflexology

Massage of the feet, hands, and/or ears.  Stimulates corresponding areas in the body.  Conditions where reflexology may be helpful: Headaches, Arthritis, High Blood Pressure, Backache & Sciatica, Stress, Allergies and Menstrual Cramps.  It is contraindicated, however, for those women who may be pregnant.

Lymphatic Drainage

This technique is directed towards expelling the impurities that collect in the lymphatic system.  Stress is reduced; the immune system is boosted and like other techniques, improves blood circulation.

Shiatsu

Japanese massage uses acupressure points to restore energy to the body.  Specify whether or not you wish to incorporate this technique into your massage session.
