HOME OF THE "GAME" BRUHZ
I remember going to the frat house pretty much everyday, it was at this time on Lake Braford Ave., to just be around the BRUHZ. Ofcourse, I, and my L.Bs had our own friends that we ran wit but it was something special about how the BRUHZ kicked it. Something mysterious and magical at the same time. It took my awhile to figure out what this special thing was and when I did the product to the calculation was so simple........it was that the BRUHZ were REAL. I say real in respect to the genuiness of their love, not like for each other. I'm sure all who read this are well aware of the social ills that face the African-American Diaspora in this country and specifically how it has affected the various aspects of the Black Mans life. Well, for the first time in my young life(18 at this time) I was witnessing young Black Men living in intimate contact and working on various projects unaided by outside influences. These brothers made me want so bad to be able to call them "Bruh"..It was nothing to "walk" the 1/2 mile from campus each day after, between, and sad to say, sometimes during class to be wit the Ques. They would be sitting around talking shit, watching ESPN and sipping various health juices(yeah right!). Sometimes they would even argue. I think to one incident inparticular. Though if anything too serious were to jump off I was to be excused, and had to walk my stankin azz home. Just as real brothers do, I can remember how authentic my GDI experince was when watch the Bruhs come to blows over various issues. I remember vividly once when an altercation broke-out( and if you know the Bruhs, shit can hit the fan out of nowhere...Fo-sho')and the bruhs were about to make me leave when one Bruh yell, "Bruhs naw, let that ni**a stay. He say he wants to be part of this then he needs to see HOW IT GOES ON!" At that moment I knew the Ques was for me. Any group this forthright I gotta be part of. Soon after a riff between the bruhz went down they would be drinking more apple juice(wink) and chanting frat songs. It was like they were real brothers. Fraternal Twinz, one and all!
Now on the yard,......well, without question the Ques ran the yard. Couldnt nobody fade the Bruhz. Yeah, the Nupes had the big frat house and the Alphas had the Sweethearts but it was the Ques that turned F.A.M.U OUT! When a weekend would come. The words on the lips of all is, "What are the Ques doing?". If the bruhz werent having anything, then maybe the other frats would get some play. To illustrate this I can vividly remember Omega Week 1989. The bruhz were holding our annual Mardi Gras at the Gym where the goal was to wear as little as possible....yeah thats right. Anyway, the shit was Bannanas! There was room for 3000 people in the gym and 6+ thousand horny, and half naked brothers and sistahs were outside. Folks were outside partying so tough that theTallahasse Police Dept. shut down the south side! It was madd crazy, and for what? Too many people trying to "kick it" wit the Ques Baby! Even CNN had it as a main story on its news for the next day and a half. If you think I'm lying contact CNN, the film dont lie-----ROO!
Now dont get me wrong when I say this . The bruhz party hard but weWORK harder!!!! Most people see the bruhz at a party stepping, stumbling, chanting and macking the ladies, but what they dont see is all the work the bruhz put in to ensure you had a good time. They dont see the countless call and formal meetings the bruhz have, to decided how, when and where parties are to be set the f*ck off. They dont see the bruhz arguing over which new ideas we are going to impelment to bring something different and fresh to the yard. They dont see the car washes we had to put on while ya'll drunk asses were asleep from last nite so that the rent could be paid for the month since we had to lay the rent money down on the party's venue for tonite; and last nite two woofers blew in the speaker while the chapter dj was banging that "Bass Music" to make you booty puuuuuump.
They dont see, after the car wash the Bruhz gotta go a put in a community act for a few hours, while concurrently another committee of bruhz(based on years in frat) got to go back to the frat house and get things ready for the after-party yall be hollering for. They dont see, the Bruhz, slipping away during a jam for a few moments to read a chapter of psych,history or the like because a test is coming on monday whether our azz "SET OUT" the jam of the year or not.They dont see the bruhz after the festivities having to pick-up all the trash our stankin asses threw down or threw up at the SET. They dont see, the city of Tallahassee handing the bruhz a proclamation for a day in the name of the chapter for its service in the community. They dont see, theBLOODY UP recieve yet another district or national award for community service given by the frat. They dont see the statistics that the UP PSI per ratio, graduates more scholars at F.A.M.U than any other frat. They dont see, that nationally, regardless of the stereotype, that the Ques have one of the highest cummulative G.P.A.'s . They dont see...
But thats okay. Just remember the Ques of the Bloody Up and the nation party hard, but WORK harder. Roo...
