Bowling For Soup, Never Heard of It & 15 Minutes Late- September 30, 2003 - Chicago, IL

“By round of applause how was this show?” Great! 15 Minutes Late, a newer band to join the punk rock scene warmed up the crowd for Never Heard of It and Bowling for Soup this Tuesday night in Chicago. This group of guys knew exactly the right things to say and play to get the crowd riled up. With sharp guitar riffs and catchy bass beats it was no wonder the band had everyone at the Metro jumping around, it also didn’t hurt that the crowd was 75% female and the band members were ever so attractive. Joining the band for a few songs was new guitarist-to-be Tony, whom will be filling in for guitarist Lance from now on. Showing great appreciation for the audience this band gave it their all and ended with style. I have a feeling that we will be hearing more from this band in the future.

Next to rock the stage was SoCal’s very own Never Heard of It. Gaining a lot of fandom from this year’s Warped Tour fan’s flocked from all over the greater Chicagoland to see this electric group perform live. It’s no wonder people want to be around this band, with their energy and charm they make anyone forget their troubles for just awhile to rock out. Showing that they really do care and listen to their fans DJ gave enough courage to one fan [Ryan] to ask his crush [Jaime] to their homecoming dance in front of the whole venue [she said yes]. Adding some more “romance” to the scene the guys broke into Boys to Men’s hit single “I’ll Make Love to You”, as the crowd grabbed their sweethearts hands and rocked out. However it wasn’t only the young that were having fun during Never Heard of It’s set. During the cover of the Temptation’s “Build Me Up [Buttercup Baby]” parents in the crowd drew near and started to shake their hips, enjoying a familiar moment with their children.

Finally to catch hold of the stage was a band that’s oh so familiar with playing shows with a variety of ages. Bowling for Soup, whom have been playing as a band for over 10 years now but not until recently been hitting it big with the younger generation. Having that be the case this group really knows how to put on a show for everyone; with a punk rock style for the younger generation and an underlying influence from 80’s hair metal for the older generation. These styles mixed in with their own styles and beats this group has a winning combination. Bowling for Soup is another band that really shows their appreciation and desire for their fans when putting on a show. It was during one part of the show when one lucky fan [Amanda] got to go up and teach her favorite band how to do the chicken dance. It was when she had the whole venue clapping their hands and flapping their wings that Jeret dubbed Chicago the “Windy Chicken Dancin’ City.” Coming to a close the band belted our their hit single “Girl All the Bad Guys Want” leaving fans, old and new, with a feeling of contentment and joy.
