Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, November 12, 2003 - Kirk Penney, who comes from the University of Wisconsin, said that League ACB "is one of the best leagues in the world" and in addition exhibited his desire "to prove himself in Europe" after his aborted experience in the NBA with the Miami Heat, a team that decided to do without his services.

 

The New Zealand forward, who also can occupy the position of shooting guard, admitted that he is on the verge of starting his professional growth.

 

Penney assured that he felt in optimal physical training condition and admitted that his knowledge of the Auna Gran Canaria is limited to the viewing of some videos.

 

"I believe that my team is strong in defense and that it has good chemistry. Although I do not have many references, I have already spoken with Pedro Martinez and I hope to be able to contribute my work," he commented.

 

On the other hand, the vice-president of the organization, Enrique Moreno, defined this draftee as a strong player “that knows how to shoot and defend" and he remembered Penney’s experience with New Zealand’s national team with whom he has competed in the Olympic Games and the World Championships.

 

"After terminating Brad Traina, the technical secretariat moved quickly and we have bet on Kirk Penney.  We have high hopes of him and we expect that he will contribute what the team needs,” asserted Moreno.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 12 noviembre 2003 (Efe).- Kirk Penney, que procede de la Universidad de Wisconsin, dijo que la Liga ACB "es una de las mejores del mundo" y además exhibió sus ganas "de probar en Europa" después de su fallida experiencia en la NBA con los Miami Heats, conjunto que decidió prescindir de sus servicios.

El alero neozelandés, que también puede ocupar la demarcación de escolta, admitió que el periplo que está a punto de comenzar le servirá para "crecer" profesionalmente.

Penney aseguró sentirse en óptimas condiciones físicas y admitió que sus conocimientos del Auna Gran Canaria se limitan a la visión de algunos vídeos.

"Creo que mi equipo es fuerte en defensa y que tiene buen ambiente. Aunque no tenía muchas referencias, ya he hablado con Pedro Martínez y espero poder aportar mi trabajo", comentó.

Por su parte, el vicepresidente de la entidad, Enrique Moreno definió a este fichaje como un jugador "fuerte, que sabe tirar y defender" y recordó su experiencia con la selección de Nueva Zelanda, con la que ha competido en los Juegos Olímpicos y en el Campeonato del Mundo.

"Tras rescindir con Brad Traina la secretaría técnica se ha movido con rapidez y hemos apostado por Kirk Penney. Estamos muy ilusionados con él y esperamos que aporte lo que el equipo necesita", aseveró Moreno
