Resurrection Sunday
Resurrection Sunday is, to me, the most important holiday of the year, and my favorite. It is not about the easter bunny, or colored eggs, or even about new clothes and a bi-annual trip to services. It is a very important Holy Day.
Just imagine, God loved us so much, even though we are all sinful, that He sent us His only Son, Jesus. He lived a sinless life, and in our place He died a horrible death on a Roman cross. Why did He do this? Well, our sins separate us from the perfect, holy, and just God. In Old Testament times, God made provisions for forgiveness of our sins through a yearly sacrifice of a perfect, unblemished lamb. When the time came, He sent His Son Jesus to be the ultimate and final sacrifice. Jesus, the Perfect Lamb of God, was crucified for our sins. The time of yearly sacrifices is finished. With a confession of our own sinfulness and faith in what He did on the cross, we can now have forgiveness.
But wait! There is more! The ultimate power of the devil is death. But Jesus overcame death, rising again on the third day! No other religious leader has been able to do that! Buddha, Muhammed, all of them are still dead, but our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ overcame! He is alive to this day! And it is this wonderful truth we celebrate on "Easter" or as I prefer to call it, Resurrection Sunday! And one day, He is returning for His people, and that day, I believe, is almost upon us.
