The Upstairs Tour

General

The upstairs space (419-B Main Street) was kept open with several possible uses in mind. Very little partitioning was done to accomplish this, with the only completely partitioned spaces being the bathroom and three small closets. Defining spaces can be accomplished in several different ways. Floor screens can be used as partitions instead of walls to provide a sense of privacy while still retaining the open feel and flow of the linear space. Furniture such as couches and bookcases can be arranged to make spaces as grand or as intimate as you like. Different fabrics, large plants, colors, and variations in light and floor elevation may also be used to partition and define space as you see fit. The only limitation is your own imagination!

A 20'L x 16'W x 1 1/2'H stepped riser in the center of the space defines a different space while keeping the open, linear characteristics of the entire floor intact. Drawers under the riser pull out to provide additional storage space, which is always at a premium in open loft spaces.

Other possible uses include office space, retail space, studio space for artists, writers, and sculptors. The space is very flexible and can be configured to accommodate many needs, desires, and activities.

Amenities

The bathroom features an oversized bathtub for residential use as well as a utility closet that has a 50 gallon water heater and enough space for a stackable washer and dryer combination. Natural light from a skylight above is allowed to shine through to both the bathtub and the utility closet. A total of three skylights provide natural light to the interior space where windows are impossible to continue the open, airy feeling. A combination of track lights, warehouse lights, and industrial fans presented in tandem with original refurbished heart pine hardwood and modern birch hardwood flooring and exposed brick walls give this space a quirky and individual yet warm, intimate, and inviting feeling. The kitchen is spacious with room to grow.

Communications Capabilities

The space is fully wired with several coaxial (cable TV) outlets, modular phone jacks, and ethernet ports. CAT-5 cable is installed for phone to accommodate multiline phones should they be desired in the future. This space's capacity for communications has been intentionally oversized so that it can fulfill the requirements of a small office or commercial use.
