THE FRIEND'S DIARY
Historic Croxteth Hall is at the heart of what was once a great country estate stretching over hundreds
of square miles and was the ancestral home of the Molyneux family, Earls of Sefton.
The estate's 900 year history is interwoven with the development of Liverpool and beyond. The Hall together with the Victorian Walled Garden, Home farm and 500 acres of parkland provide us with a unique record of a way life that no longer exists. It is now one of the major heritage
On the death in 1972 of Hugh William Osbert Molyneux, the 7th and last Earl Sefton, the estate was bequeathed to the City of Liverpool. Since then it has undergone a major programme of development and is managed as Croxteth Hall & Country Park by The City of Liverpool Leisure Services Directorate and attracts thousands of visitors every year. An extremely popular education and events programme brings the park to life.
Much of this would not be possible without the support of local people.
In the past many people in the community gave their time and energies to stage events and provide gifts to improve the Park. These gifts include historic costumes, room restoration, garden benches, desktop publishing equipment, educational computers and even two rare bred bulls for pedigree breeding.
These people were true friends of the park. Today the 'Friends' have an association whose aim is to continue the good work thus helping to maintain and enhance what has been given to us to enjoy.
As a Friend you will be entitled to attend a programme of events and special guided visits organized by the 'Friends' and you will receive a newsletter.
Being a Friend can be much more than simply paying a subscription. We welcome anyone who wishes to give their time, talents, expertise or interest toward furthering our work.
Whether you live locally or are visiting from afar, as a Friend you will be making your personal contribution to the task of conserving our heritage for future generations to enjoy.
