SINGAPORE AIRLINES

Formed as Malayan Airways, the airline begain domestic operations on 1 May 1947 and international service in 1948. With the help of BOAC, international services were expanded and turboprop Bristol Britannias were leased from British airline in September 1961, followed by de havilland Comet 4s in late 1965. On 30 December 1966 the name was changed to malaysian-Singapore Airlines and operations continued under this title until 24 January 1972, when the two countries formed their own airlines. On 1 October 1973 Singapore Airlines begain operations under it's own name. serving domestic locations, on 2 April 1973 the airline begain daily service to London, and in September of that year the company received there first two Boeing 747s. Boeing 727 aircraft entered service with Singapore Airlines on regional routes in September 1977.

Concorde service between Singapore and London Via Bahrain in a partnership with British Airlines were started 10 December 1977, but stopped in November 1980 due to the Malaysian government decision to ban supersonic operations over Malaysia.

In the early 1980s Airbus A300 were introduced with A310s and Boeing 757s. In 1988 new Boeing 747-400s came along with a Freighter version. In the 1990s Boeing 777s and Airbus A340s were also introduced.
