Stagecrewgirly's Techie Corner

Welcome to the Techie Corner! I hope this turns out well! (nudge, nudge, feedback helps!!!)

What is a Techie?

A Techie is someone who works in Technical Theatre.

What is Technical Theatre?

Technical Theatre is comprised of all the parts of theatre that AREN'T acting.

What does a Techie do?

Techies control everything except the actors. We run the lights, sound, and fly system, and we build (and operate) the set pieces. We also fix anything that breaks, find anything that gets lost, and prevent accidents from happening- to the best of our abilities, anyway. I say that because, unfortunately, some things cannot be prevented. Should something happen, fortune forbid, we're the ones who know first aid, CPR, and the number for 911.

How can I become a Techie?

First, you should know that being a Techie is one of the most thankless jobs you will ever have. Techies are no strangers to stress, long hours, and hurried dinner breaks. We also get yelled at a LOT. But don't be discouraged. Techies are notoriously nice people, and working backstage is a lot of fun. Look into a theatre program near you. Schools are usually a good place to look- but community theatres are good as well.
