Chapter 8: A Little Secret

It was two weeks after Jemima and Mungojerrie
consummated their relationship. The only other cats
that new anything about the two lovers were Tugger,
Electra, and Etcetera, and they were under strict
orders to keep their mouths shut. Mungo and Jemima
spent most of the days talking, cuddling, and just
being together. At night, Jemima would quietly sneak
out of the Old Ford and meet Mungo, and the two would
make passionate love.

One morning Jemima was basking in the sun on the hood
of the Old Ford thinking about Mungojerrie. She
thought about how his paws and mouth felt as they
caressed her body, the way he looked above her as they
made love. A small grin was playing across her face,
and she didn’t hear Victoria come up beside her.

“What are you smiling about?” Victoria asked.

Jemima was startled out of her daydream and quickly
opened her brown eyes. When she realised it was just
her best friend she allowed herself to relax. She
propped herself onto her elbow and looked at Victoria.

“I was just thinking,” replied Jemima, “What’s up with
you?”

“Well actually I have something really important to
tell you.” Victoria’s face got brighter with each word
she spoke.

Sensing it was good news; Jemima quickly sat up next
to her friend. “What is it?” Jemima asked eagerly.

“Well, it’s not certain yet, but I’m pretty sure. I
think I am pregnant!” Victoria happily confessed.

“Oh my god!!!!!” Jemima exclaimed. A week ago
Victoria and Misto had officially become mates, and
she couldn’t believe they would be having their first
litter so soon. The two queens proceeded to jump up
and down, and hug, and squeal. Once they had calmed
down they resumed their conversation.

“Have you told Misto yet?” Jemima asked.

“Not yet. I wanted to be one hundred percent sure
first, before I told anyone.” Replied Victoria.

“Then why did you tell me?” Jemima asked slightly
confused.

“Well, I was kinda wondering if you would come with me
to see Jenny and find out. I would kind of like the
support.” Victoria admitted.

“Of course I’ll come with you.” Jemima said. Both
girls beamed, so excited about Victoria’s news.

Fifteen minutes later Jenny was done examining
Victoria.

“Well, Congratulations!!!” Jenny beamed. “You are
going to have kittens. I think three to be exact.”

All three queens jumped around and squealed again,
like females are apt to do.

“I think you should go tell Misto now. I know he will
be just as happy as the rest of us.” Jenny suggested.

“Of course, I will go find him right now.” Victoria
exclaimed, and quickly ran out to tell her mate the
good news.

Jenny and Jemima were left standing together outside
of Jenny’s den, watching Victoria’s slim white figure
race into the distance. Jemima suddenly felt as if
she was being watched, and looked towards Jenny who
was intently looking Jemima up and down. Their eyes
met. Both pairs holding a look of confusion.

“Jemima, come in, I think we need to talk.” Jenny said
sternly. She quickly turned and stalked into her den
leaving Jemima standing alone in the bright sunlight
extremely confused.

Jemima walked in and saw Jenny sitting on one of the
cushions in her den, and Jemima sat in one opposite
one. Jenny continued looking Jemima up and down,
except this time it was more between her stomach and
her head. Jemima looked down at her stomach, and
instead of its usual flatness, there was now a
noticeable round swelling. She had been to caught up
with Mungojerrie to ever notice it, until now. She
looked up at Jenny, a confused yet guilty look on her
pretty face.

“You’re pregnant.” Jenny said dryly and matter-of-
factly.

“W-what?” Jemima gasped. Her mind was blank, but in
the pit of her stomach she knew that Jenny’s
accusations were true. She hung her head in shame and
embarrassment.

“Well, it’s quite obvious you are. I don’t see how
you have gotten away so far without anyone noticing.
I know you aren’t mated yet, so would you like to tell
me who the father is?”

Jemima made eye contact with Jenny for the first time
since they had begun talking. Jemima was ashamed that
Jenny had found out about her pregnancy in the manner
that she had. But there was no way that she was
ashamed of the father of her kittens, or the love the
two shared.

“Mungojerrie.” Jemima said.

Jenny was taken back by this news. She had expected
the father to be Tumblebrutus, Plato, or even
Admetus. They were still kittens like Jemima, but
Mungojerrie was an adult. “Oh, well you had better go
find him, and tell him the news.”

Jemima could sense that Jenny wasn’t too pleased that
Mungo was the father, but she sure was. She got up
and quickly exited the den in search of the new
father. Jemima found him quickly enough playing
around with some of the young toms. Jemima walked up
to him and tapped on his shoulder.

“We need to talk.” She whispered

Mungo was mildly surprised. He and Jemima had devised
a plan to tell one another that the other was needed,
and coming up to him deliberately in daylight wasn’t
part of it. Though Mungo couldn’t begin to complain.

“Excuse me fellas.” Mungo said amiably to the other
toms, and swiftly followed after Jemima.

“What’s wrong love?” Mungo asked as soon as the other
toms were out of earshot. Even thought Jemima had a
pleasant smile on her facer, her eyes told him a
different story.

“Ummmmmmm….well…….” Jemima said, suddenly
nervous, “Ummmmmmm, Mungo…….I’m pregnant.”

Mungo just stood there for a few seconds, his eyes
wide with shock and his mouth hanging open. Jemima
gently closed it for him, and turned his head so he
was looking in her eyes. As the cats looked at each
other a large grin spread across Mungo’s face.

“You mean you’re going to have my kittens? You mean
there are little Mungo’s and Jemima’s growing in you?”
Mungo asked brightly.

“Yep, that’s exactly what I mean.” Jemima said beaming.

Mungo picked Jemima carefully up in his arms, being
extra careful not to hurt her stomach, and kissed
her. Jemima thought that this had to be the most
wonderful morning in her life. She had a tom that
loved her and she was going to bear his kittens. Her
heart practically exploded out of her chest.

“I love you Jemima.” Mungo whispered into her ear.

“I know you do, I love you too Mungojerrie.” Jemima
whispered right back.

“Excuse me, Munkustrap, Demeter, I have something of
great importance to tell you.” Jenny said quietly.

Soon after Jemima had left her den, Jenny had gone off
on search of her parents. She had found them
relatively quickly curled up together on the hood of
the Old Ford. When they heard her voice, the couple
sat up and listened to the old queen.

“Normally I wouldn’t get involved in matters such as
this, but I felt I had to due to the consequences. I
saw Jemima today.” Jenny said.

“Is she alright?” Demeter asked suddenly, her maternal
instincts surfacing.

“No, she is fine relatively speaking.” Said Jenny. At
her words Demeter calmed considerably.

“What is it Jenny?” Asked Munkustrap impatiently. He
could sense she had something extremely important to
tell them but was beating around the bush.

“Jemima is……..pregnant.” Jenny said, whispering the
last word.

The two mates looked at each other in shock and
confusion, then as if one voiced the same question.

“WHAT???????????”

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Jemima and Mungojerrie were softly kissing outside the
pipe where they had spent their first night together.
Jemima was curled up in Mungo’s lap, one of his strong
paws placed protectively over the round bump that was
now her stomach. They were lost in each other’s eyes
when they were rudely interrupted.

“Get your paws off of her.” Munkustrap yelled,
breaking the lovers apart. Jemima was grabbed by her
mother. Mungojerrie and Munkustrap were standing very
close together, both had menacing looks on their
faces. Munkustrap looked like he was ready to kill
Mungojerrie.

“Please don’t fight.” Jemima begged. Mungo and
Munkustrap were about the same size, but Munkustrap
was much older, and therefore a much more skilled
fighter. Her words seemed to have no affect on the
toms, so Jemima said in a softer, gentler voice.

“Mungo, please stop.”

At this the two toms stopped staring at one another
and looked at Jemima. Mungo turned from Munkustrap
and walked towards Jemima. Demeter let go of Jemima,
and Jemima met Mungo halfway there. The two embraced
as the sun set behind the Junkyard.
