About Us

Reign in Me Dance Ministries is an outreach of South Lane Christian Center located in Cottage Grove, Oregon. The purpose of the ministry is to uplift the body and spread the message of the gospel to the community. It is also the goal of this ministry to empower future leaders in restoring the arts to the church in an orderly fashion. Reign in Me Dance Ministries believes in training dancers to be true worshippers, worshipping the Father in Spirit and in truth as referenced in John 4:23.

The ministry began in January of 2005 under the direction of Tracy Allen. The first dance team was founded with four adult team members. By March, the team had grown to eight members strong. Currently, South Lane Christian Center's Reign in Me Dance Ministries consists of two teams that participate in church and local events in an effort to uplift the body and bring the message of the gospel to the community. These teams include the original 8 member team and a youth team co-led by Lynn Sanders and Lia Davey. The youth team is open to church members ages 12-18.

The Story Behind the Name

Originally, the Dance Team was simply, the South Lane Christian Center Dance Team. This changed when one of the members of the team felt the Lord had a word for the ministry. The word was "reign." More specifically, she felt that the Lord was going to use this ministry to raise up "reign" dancers. In a study of the word "reign" God's vision for the ministry was found.

The term "reign" literally means to possess or exercise sovereign power. Exodus 15:18 says, "The LORD will reign forever and ever!" This statement is found in the "Song of Deliverance" that the Israelites sang to the Lord when He delivered them from Egypt. It testifies to the fact that it is the Lord's reign, His exercise of sovereign power, in Moses and over the lives of the Israelite's that delivered them from captivity. It is for this reason that the ministry was named Reign in Me Dance. It is our primary purpose as Christian's to declare freedom to the captives, but we can only do this through Christ's reign in us. Just as Moses brought freedom to the Israelites by the Lord's reign in his life, so to do we hope to bring freedom to the captives through dance as God reigns in us.

Some references in the Bible relating to “lively worship” or “leaping” are also referring to dance. In addition, other Hebrew words relating to physical movement were sometimes translated into English as "rejoice".
