The Doors were billed to play for three nights along with Chuck Berry and Salvation on December 26, 27 & 28 at Winterland in San Francisco. That morning on December 27, The Doors went into the recording studios at CBS TV and recorded "Light My Fire" and "Moonlight Drive".

The Doors played at Winterland on the same night that The Jonathon Winters Show went to air. Densmore (1991) had quite a vivid memory of the Winterland concert that night. The Doors had opened up their set with "Break On Through" and during the middle of their second song, "Back Door Man", the group's T.V performance had just started to go on air. John stopped playing the drums and got up from his drum stool and turned up the volume on the T.V set which was placed on top of a large amplifier for the audience to watch. John sat down with his back to the audience and watched the play back of their T.V performance. Jim, Ray and Robbie soon followed John as well.
