About Us

Merrymeeting Community Players is a non-profit [501 (c) (3)] theater group formed in the early summer of 1997 by local singers and actors for the express purpose of providing theatrical opportunities to the surrounding communities, on stage, as part of production and as audience. MCP as we are known, strives to be both educational and charitable. Some of our charitable activities have been to perform at the Topsham Fair, at the Highlands retirement living center, and at the Unitarian Universalist Church. In addition, we provide preview performances open to those who cannot afford theater tickets for regular performances, most recently for students in grades 5-8 of St. John’s School. We also maintain a building at the Topsham Fair which bears our logo. After the completion of our youth show last summer, we donated money to the theater or music department of the schools where our performers attended. The summer youth theater program is our most important educational activity, our goal is to teach as much about every aspect of theater as possible, involving as many youth as possible. Each of our performances is open to all performers, regardless of experience or ability level and have featured several players who have never before performed on stage whether children or people in their fifties.
