Key Responsibilities:
· Managing a substantial department of 15 full-time and 90 part-time staff
· Leading the development of the music subject area, including strategic planning
· Maintaining and developing appropriate subject-focused external links
· Overseeing a concert diary of c.120 public events within a budget of £26,000
· Co-ordinating teaching workloads, schedules for scholarly activity, staff appraisal and staff pay
· Developing the portfolio of music courses at FE, foundation degree, undergraduate and postgraduate levels
· Taking responsibility for the quality of teaching, learning and assessment in the music subject group
· Instigating and leading staff development activities within the subject group
· Recruiting, selecting and inducting new staff
· Promoting scholarship and research in the music area
· Taking responsibility for marketing in the subject area
· Instigating new departments in composition (1997), jazz studies (1998), conducting (1998) and contemporary piano (1999)
· Initiating a postgraduate student fellowship scheme (1998)
· Collaboration with partner institutions such as the Powerhouse (developing a BMus in Popular Music Performance), RAF Music Services and RMSM (combined performance projects, mentoring scheme and curriculum initiatives), Canterbury College (HND in Music Production) and Reading College (Foundation Degree)
· Founding and co-ordinating specialist careers guidance seminars for music students and maintaining a database of alumni information
· Public speaking at various large and small-scale events

Key Responsibilities:

· Academic:
Teaching clarinet (all levels); ensemble coaching; MMus dissertation tutor;
harmony, analysis and pastiche; keyboard harmony and aural;
orchestration; historical set works.

· Programme Creation, Validation and Development:
Preparation of the BMus(Performance/Composition) Pathway 1996/97; responsibility for the writing, validation and delivery of 4 modularised BMus programmes (full and part-time routes)1994-97; revision and modularisation of the GLCM(Hons) programme; writing 7 individual UG modules including Instrumental Studies, Ensemble Studies and 20th century Performance Workshop; co-ordinating the preparation of 15 MMus composition modules

· Administrative
Programme marketing and publicity; liaison with full/part-time staff and external examiners; chairing programme committee meetings; overall responsibility for the progress of undergraduate students; part of LCM Programme Development Team; responsibility for recruitment.

· Module Leader for Performance and Theory Core Modules
Co-ordination, liaison and dissemination of information to full and part-time staff; developing and implementing assessment procedures; assuring quality in module revision and delivery; student evaluation

· Staff Recruitment
Interviewing new part- and full-time staff; preparing and delivering induction programmes; allocating appropriate workloads that exploit the full potential of staff

· Pastoral Work
Acting as personal tutor to cohorts of app.30 students per annum across all music programmes; responsibility for academic and personal support for undergraduate students.
