A Colonial Christmas heritage at Symphony Center
A piece of Masonic history
put to one more good use

I took these pictures because of the gold and brown fringed tapestry we were using to adorn
the front of the bar. It is a piece of the original decor of the Masonic temple room we are in here.
They were found in the building when the renovation started. They're old and dusty and brittle
and almost falling apart. They haven't been used for anything for about 50 years,
and this is likely the last time they will be used for anything.
They now can't be handled much at all without pulling the fabric apart.

There are two and each is about 16 feet long, originally hung above the windows on the interior
wall of this room. If you look to the right of the room in the one pic you see window units
that seperate the room from the kitchen. The entire wall of three windows lifts to open up
in one piece, casing to casing, (lifted on big hidden counterweights inside the casings)
to the kitchen area, or 'Ladies Gallery' where women of that era could watch
the ceremonies and presentations, without actually entering the lodge room.
You've come a long way, baby, mostly women run the place now!
