Why Indians Scalped People?
In the old times, before the white man came into the now called Americas - and more specifically, North America what is now USA, there was no "scalping". Hair for the Indians has always been respected (read below "Indians and Long Hair") It was the white men who started this "custom". When the white man fought the Indians, the white took the Indian's hair as souvenirs and the woman's breast as pouches for their tobacco - we Indians just followed their example and the movies transferred the custom to the Indian side - One more for Hollywood.

Why do Indians keep their hair long?
We Indians, keep our hair long because that is the place where we keep our memories.

Why is it that Indians and Horses seem to be part of one another?
First: Horses came into the Americas with the Spaniards - As an additional note, in our tribe The KIOWA Nation, the word for horse translates to "big dog" hence the first time Kiowas saw a horse they thought it to be a big dog. Second: The love and respect Indians have shown to all nature creatures have made animals to react in a different way toward the Indian. It is not "an Indian thing", it does not make any difference where you come from and what your blood line is, if you show respect to the animal, the animal will love you and respect you the same.

What do Indians smoke in the peace pipe?
First, we must add that the term "peace pipe" is another Hollywood term which has been taken by movie goers as an Indian fact. The name for the pipe among the pre-white invasion Indians was "friend-ship" pipe and was used to bring friend-ship among those sharing it. To the Indian, tobacco has its own magic and it was never smoked. Tobacco was used as an offering to Mother Earth. Those who have respect for the "friendship pipe" will sit among friends and fill the pipe with a mixture of herbs which will give a sweet smell when burned, as you do this: from your mouth "sweet" words will come out when you talk. If you have a quarrel with someone you can sit and use this pipe and talk things over, all with sweet words.
