Chin Yun Chorus, Inc. (hereinafter "CYC") is a non-profit, non-political, non-discriminatory, and tax-exempt organization.  It was established in 1985 with a group amateurs interesting in choral music.  Over years, the CYC has grown both in membership and audience.  Membership is available to all qualified individuals, regardless of race, creed, color, gender, nationality, religious or ethnic background.

The CYC is committed to deliver the cultural, educational and charitable services to local communities through learning, teaching, singing and performing music in theaters, libraries, churches, temples and schools.  The CYC is also obligated to enrich the diversity of the society by interacting with different ethic groups and by actively participating in various multi-cultural programs sponsored by the public or private sectors.  To further fulfill our commitment, the CYC frequently visits hospitals, nursing homes, senior citizen centers, and low-income family living facilities to entertain those who are under served and less fortunate.  All performances will be held in ADA accessible facilities.

The CYC has made tremendous contributions to the local communities since its establishment in 1985.  Representatives conducted in 2003-2005 are briefly summarized below.  Furthermore, a very exciting program is currently being prepared for its 20th anniversary in mid 2006.

1.       Holiday concert to celebrate Chinese New Year at the Firehouse in Hamilton, NJ.  (February 15, 2003).

2.       Charity performance at the West Windsor Township Senior Citizen Center, West Windsor, NJ.  (February 21, 2003).

3.       Religious performance at the Buddhist Temple in East Brunswick, NJ.  (April 6, 2003).

4.       Charity performance at the ELM Court Village, the low income families and senior citizens assisting living facility, in Princeton, NJ.  (June 7, 2003).

5.       Sunday service hymn presentation at the Fellowship Baptist Church, West Windsor, NJ.  (August 17, 2003).

6.       Sunday service hymn presentation at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Ewing, NJ.  (August 24, 2003).

7.       Educational performance at the Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.  (September 21, 2003).

8.       Educational workshop as part of Chinese Choral Festival at the Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.  (October 25, 2003).

琴韻合唱團成立於一九八五年,由一群志同道合熱愛音樂,熱心公益的朋友組織而成。該團現由劉妍女士擔任指揮,謝園先生藝術指導。琴韻合唱團平時除了定時練唱之外,並且不遺餘力地支持各區的慈善公益活動,受邀在社區慰問獻唱,及參加慈善籌款等活動。歡迎愛好音樂並且願意服務社區的讀者一起來參加這樣一個有意義的社團。請和團長王翔聯絡  (732) 251-1272

 

 

Introduction of Conductor Yan Liu:

Conductor: Yan Liu

劉妍女高音歌唱家, 原中央戲劇學院表演戲教師。 一九八一年畢業於中國音樂學院歌劇系歌劇表演專業。跟隨中國著名聲樂家張權教授學習聲樂。一九九零年赴美深造,就讀於邁阿密大學音樂學院攻讀碩士。先後與佛州歌劇院,棕櫚樹歌劇院,金色海岸歌劇院,橋治湖歌劇院合作演出。還受邀佛州古典音樂電視頻道採訪並演唱歌劇選曲。一九九三年隨夫謝園到美國最高音樂學府伊斯曼音樂學院進修。劉妍不僅在古典音樂,美聲唱法上有所造詣,還熱衷於中國傳統民歌和通俗歌曲的演唱。一九九五年再三州歌唱大賽獲頭獎,同年受美新聞人物電視台採訪。為發揚中華文化,連續為美軍駐新澤西總部年度授獎大會及全美亞裔節演唱多首中國民歌及歌劇選曲。一九九六年和二零零零年在若歌大學音樂廳舉辦獨唱音樂會。

一九九六年和二零零三年兩次任普林斯頓琴韻合唱團指揮及教授聲樂,舉辦音樂表演講座,為當地報社撰寫多期藝術短文。

Yan liu was born in Nanjing, China. In 1981, she won First Prize at The Nanjing Vocal Competition. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in opera performance from the China Conservatory of Music.

After graduation, Nancy became an Assistant Professor in the Opera Program at the Central Academy of Drama, where China’s stage and screen actors and actresses are train. Among her more famous students are actress Gong Li of Farewell My Concubine and Jiang Shan.

Yan Liu’s operatic performance including engagements with the Florida Grand Opera, Miami Civic Opera, Florida Classical Art, Miami Opera Theater, Palm Beach Opera, Gold Coast Opera, Lake George Opera, and others.

Yan Liu talents cross the classical arena into the popular. She won First Prize at the Tri-State Vocal Competition against singers from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Now, she is a private teacher teaching voice as well as the conductor of Chin Yun Chorus.

Introduction of Artistic Director: Yuan Xie (in English):

Artistic Director: Yuan Xie

Born in Beijing, China. Yuan Xie made his American opera debut with the Florida Grand Opera.  His opera engagements included the Florida Grand Opera, Hawaii Opera Theater, West Palm Beach Opera, Lake George Opera, Opera North, and Rochester Opera Theater.

 

Following his graduation from the China Conservatory of Music in 1986, Yuan was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Miami where he received his Master of Music in Vocal Performance in 1992.  He was a vocal instructor at Miami Date Community College from 1990 to 1993.  Yuan returned to further his study at the prestigious Eastman School of Music with the well known bass, Thomas Paul in 1993.  Currently, he is the Artistic Director of Chin Yun Chorus.

 

Introduction of Wennie Nai-Uueh Niu (in English):

Wennie Nai-Yueh Niu, graduated from the Music Department of the National Taiwan Normal University.  Ms. Niu earned a Master’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she also obtained a certificate for professional vocal performance. Besides several famous Chinese voice masters, her teachers include Richard Alderson, Norman Gulbrandson, Hermanus Baer, Eileen Deneen, Michail Trimble and Lorraine Nubar.  She also worked with Jannet Bookspan and Joan Dornamann, coaches of The Metropolitan Opera in New York City.  Ms Niu was an active opera singer and performed widely in Chicago, New Jersey, and New York. She has played major roles in ‘The King and I’, ‘Cosi Fan Tutte’, ‘Don Giovanni’, Amal and the Night Visitors’, ‘La Boheme’, ‘Rigoletto’, ‘Hansel and Gretel’, and ‘The Pirates of Penzance’.  During her study, she was selected as a soloist of the music department’s chorus. .  She was the soprano soloist in a performance of the Messiah with the New Jersey Choral Society. Her many personal recitals since 1982 have received much acclaim, including a successful recital with the well-known accompanist Dalton Baldwin.

Niu’s chorale teaching experience includes the National Taiwan Normal University, the National Tsing Hua University, the Tan Chiang University, the Hsin Chu Teacher’s College, all in Taiwan and the Joy Chorale in Chicago.  Currently, she conducts Hua-Xia Chinese School Chorus in East Brunswick, Hua-Xia Chinese School Chorus in Plainsboro, the Happy Singers, and the Happy Junior in Princeton, New Jersey.  She devotes her effort to the promotion of musicianship to the community services and to the young generation.

鈕乃約女士以優美的女高音聞名於台灣及美國音樂界,自1982年以來曾在芝加哥、紐約、紐澤西、休斯頓、加州灣區、及台灣南北各地舉行多場個人獨唱會,均甚獲各界好評。鈕乃約畢業於國立台灣師範大學音樂系,後赴美伊利諾州西北大學修得碩士學位。因表現優異,獲教授推薦取得獎學金繼續攻讀獲得「聲樂職業表演文憑」。在學期間曾被膺選擔任音樂系合唱團之女高音獨唱,在芝加哥、紐約、紐澤西各地應邀於各大小國際慶典中演唱。曾分別受教於大都會歌劇院的珍妮.布克斯班及瓊.多納曼兩位大師門下。在各地劇院表演過之全本歌劇或音樂劇,包括「國王與我」、「女人皆如此」、「唐喬望尼」、「波希米亞人」、「弄臣」、「韓賽兒與葛蘭特」、「磐石城的海盜」等,均於劇中擔任主要角色。鈕乃約曾擔任多個合唱團的指揮,包括臺灣師大合唱團、淡江大學合唱團、清華大學合唱團、新竹師專合唱團、芝加哥芝音合唱團等,現任紐澤西普林斯頓中文學校幸福合唱團、東布朗斯威克華夏中文學校合唱團、布蘭斯堡華夏中文學校歌友會指揮。近年來籌備了多場高水準的音樂會,熱心從事回饋社區的活動,積極促進新州華人社區的和諧。

Introduction of Seth Rosenthal (in English):

Seth Rosenthal is a member of the Artist Faculty at Westminster Conservatory of Rider University.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College CUNY, has done graduate work at CCNY, and studied at Tanglewood in the Young Artist program through Boston University.

His training includes study with flutists Julius Baker, Harold Bennett, James Pappoutsakis , John Wion, and most recently Keith Underwood.  He has appeared with a wide range of performing organizations including The New Jersey Symphony, the Queens Symphony, Sol Hurok Enterprises (Royal Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Moiseyev Ballet, Nureyev and Fontaine Gala, etc.), New York City Opera, Goldman and Seuffert Bands, Edison Symphony, Metro Lyric Opera of New Jersey, Greater Trenton Symphony, the Bronx Opera, N. Y. Municipal Concerts Orchestra and many other organizations.

Mr. Rosenthal also performs recitals with piano and harp, and other chamber music with many groups.

He is currently on the Board of Directors of the N.Y. Flute Club and the New Jersey Music Teachers’ Association.
