Marcy Playground: Shapeshifter

Marcy Playground: Shapeshifter
Yellow Submarine
__________________________________________________

This synch, combining the music of Marcy Playground with the animated Beatles film Yellow Submarine might be best described as experimental. To be sure, it hasn't held up under the gaze of all those who have seen it. But for some, it has proved to be a worthwhile experience. And even though the connections that lie herein may not be as obvious as those in some of the more popular synchs, it is one of my personal favorites. In fact, I find it moving. It resonates with me -- probably because I dig the music so much. There's only one way to find out if you feel the same ...

To try this, program your stereo to play Shapeshifter's tracks in the following order: 1 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11. Have your CD paused at the beginning of track 1 Watch for the moment in the beginning of the film when the Blue Meanies launch their attack by firing a huge blue bubble from a hole. The screen shakes for a split second prior to the attack; at that moment press play.

1. Dark Side of Yellow Submarine

This greatness of this synch, discovered by Baker B. [home page], directly inspired my own experiments with Yellow Submarine. I more or less stole his starting point, and to be totally honest, I used a VHS copy of Dark Side of Yellow Submarine (received from a friend) as the video component when I discovered my synch. I cannot recommend this one highly enough. Baker is responsible for some of the very best synchs out there, and this is no exception.

2. Dark Submarine

Another synch influenced by Baker's find. It uses an alternate starting point, and strangely, there is a different mood about it.
