Future Release Information: Harris Plays Spanish Guitar
Cryptogram records has commissioned a new CD of Spanish guitar music performed by Dale Harris. This new disc will include many new interpretations and alternative transcriptions of both repertoire pieces and new and original transcriptions for guitar by Dale Harris. Presented here are early works for vihuela (a renaissance cousin of the guitar), including works by Mudarra, Milan, and Narvaez. Five of Luis Milan's six Pavanas are presented in new keys and within a more improvised and embellished setting that is the norm. Gaspar Sanz wrote some memorable melodies for the Baroque guitar and his Espanoleta and Canarios have been made famous outside the guitar world by Rodrigo in his Fantasia for Guitar and Orchestra. There are planty of classic Spanish repertoire pieces such as Granados's Dedicatoria and Danza Espanola No.5, Malats Serenata Espanola and several traditional Spanish melodies. Harris Plays Spanish Guitar is not only a great introduction to the Spanish Guitar, but the new interpretations provide interest for the student and anyone interested in new developments for the guitar.
