From Back Cover:

Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) is a Wall Street yuppie, obsessed with success, status and style, with a stunning fiancée (Reese Witherspoon). He is also a psychotic killer who rapes, murders and dismembers both strangers and acquaintances without provocation or purpose.

My Comments:

This is considered a cult classic, but I really don't understand why. I get that it's a satire. I get that it strives to be darkly funny. However, I found it rather dull. None of the characters were likeable, despicable, or interesting enough for me to give a damn about them. I must say though that Christian Bale - with his near complete lack of emotional range - was a perfect choice for the role.

From Back Cover:

"One hell of a sick, exhilarating coaster ride."
-Brandon Judell, Detour

From the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Usual Suspects, this wickedly offbeat mix of crime, comedy and gunplay stars Ryan Phillippe and 2001 Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro (Best Supporting Actor for Traffic). Convinced they'll score big money fast by kidnapping a young surrogate mother (Juliette Lewis) carrying the child of a wealthy Southwestern couple, the two small-caliber crooks soon run into major problems. Realizing too late that they're in over their heads, the kidnappers fight to keep their plan from unraveling amid a rising tide of bloodshed, mind games and greed.

My Comments:

An incredibly violent and suspenseful movie, but I'm only somewhat convinced I even liked it. The characters are a bit hard to connect with and some of the little twists at the end even I could see coming.

From Back Cover:

This gritty emotionally charged film intricately links the lives of a lonely widowed mother (Ellen Burstyn), her son Harry (Jared Leto), his beautiful girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly) and his best friend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans). Each of them is pursuing their vision of happiness. Even as everything begins to fall apart, they refuse to let go, plummeting with their dreams into a nightmarish, gut-wrenching freefall.

My Comments:

Although it is a visually and stylistically engaging film, I just couldn't connect with its collection of crazed junkie characters. Still, an interesting watch.
