Go SQUEEK!!!!
History
Vans Warped tour, back in the 80's someone named Squeek was an entrepreneur from Garden City Michigan whom had never had a desire to professionally sing. He was known around the neighborhood for riding BMX bikes with the kids on the local track called "Famous BMX" on Michigan Ave. at the time. One day Squeek and about thirty kids were leaving “Famous BMX” riding down Merriman Rd. going to a seven eleven and a police officer had stopped Squeek and told him that "It is illegal to ride with all these kids" Squeek called up his lawyer and handed his phone to the officer and they lawyer told him that there is no law for Squeek to ride with 30 kids. Later that day one of the kids asked Squeek why he rides BMX bikes, Squeek replied" cause I’ve got BMX fever." Later that day Squeek wrote the song BMX Fever. He had gotten his big break when he went to a friend of a friend’s house to hear a local band rehearse, the bands name was Striker. Fortunately the bands singer left practice early and Squeek’s friends said “Let Squeek sing" he replied “I can’t sing, I can’t sing." The band started to play Live Wire & Sin City by ACDC. Squeek was forced to sing with the band for a couple of hours. Two days later the band came to Squeek’s house and asked Squeek “Yo Squeek! Do you want to be a rock and roll singer, we want you." This is where the musical career started that would began something to be legendary to become the first BMX & skateboard music artist in the USA. After weeks of rehearsing copy tunes with the band, Squeek told the band that they should do original songs instead of copies. The band wanted to continue doing copy tunes. So one day Squeek was at a studio lounge in Westland to checkout a band called Weapons. He met the base player, Pete Bankard and Joey Gaydos Sr. the lead guitarist (If Joey Gaydos sounds familiar, his son, Joey Gaydos Jr. is in School of Rock Starring Jack Black). Squeek introduced himself to Pete and Joey and told him about his band Striker that was just doing copy tunes and Squeek had several original compositions but Striker didn’t want to do originals. Pete said to Squeek" I have an 8 track recording studio and Joey and I are studio musicians for hire." The next day, Squeek began working with Joey on his "Squeek Rocks" album it consisted of 10 songs. Later they did the "Squeekee Rocks BMX album". Before that was finished a National Promoter from NBA the (National Bike Association) was at Famous BMX for a big race. The owner of the track and the kids told the Nation Promoter about Squeek's BMX music. The promoter contacted Squeek and asked him did he want to tour the Sponsored National Bike Associations races from Memphis to California. The Promoter asked Squeek did he have his BMX music on cassette. The answer was no, so within 3 short weeks, Squeek hired Joey Pete, and Fred Schmidt to do the music for the album, Squeekee Rocks BMX. At the time engineer and producer Ben Gross of Pearl Sound (the now famous producer of Sponge and many other bands), engineered and mixed Squeek’s BMX music.
