Description of Two of my personal favorite classes.

44 Populations. Demographic aspects of social/economic change. Considers the epidemiological transition to low mortality, the historical decline in Western family size, the baby boom, third world family planning, changing marriage patterns, women's labor force participation, migration theories, and global aging. (description taken from UCI Catalog). This class helps you understand the these concepts by making the students do research on a variety of subjects like poverty, population size, etc. The type of assignments that are due for this course are three research papers were we (the student) have to provide and explain both qualitative and quantitative data about the world around us and presented to a general public to understand.
63 Race and Ethnicity. Focuses on racial and ethnic relations in the United States and compares them with those found in other societies. Analyzes the conditions that favor either cooperation and integration or rivalry, tension, and conflict. Appraises strategies for reducing and resolving conflicts. (description taken from UCI Catalog). This class helps you understand the concepts of race and ethnicity and the differences between the two. This class is very literature influence, they make you do read several different short stories about the subject on race and ethnicity. Their is one paper for the class that you have to write about our own assimilation process in the US and talk about our own race and ethnicity.
