Welcome to the Osbourn High School Band Web Page
The Osbourn High School Band Program involves approximately 130 students in
grades 9 through 12. The bands are under direction of Mr. Ted Johnson.
Curricular performance ensembles include the Concert Band and the Symphonic
Band. Extra-curricular ensembles include the Screamin’ Eagle Marching Band,
Jazz Ensemble, Winter Guard and various chamber ensembles. The Osbourn High
School Bands consistently receive excellent and superior ratings at district
festivals and contests.
Course offerings
Symphonic Band: A performance group,
concentrating on the development and
mastery of advanced musical concepts and performance skills. The goal of this
group
is to attain a superior level of performance in grades V & VI music.
Selection for participation is based on an audition.
Concert Band: A performance group, concentrating on the
continued development of
fundamental skills and techniques. There is also an emphasis on the
introduction of more advanced skills and concepts. The goal of this group is
to attain a superior level of performance in grades III, IV & V music.
Consent of director required for participation.
Extra-curricular program offerings
Screaming Eagle Marching Band: A corps style marching
band which performs at all Osbourn home varsity football games, participates
in several marching competitions and festivals, and marches in local parades.
In order to be a member of the marching band student must commit to all
rehearsals and performances and demonstrate the necessary musical skills.
Winter Guard: A precision drill and dance team which
performs at home basketball games and competitions. Participation is based on
audition.
Jazz Ensemble: A performance group which explores
contemporary popular music and various styles of jazz. With the exception of
keyboards, guitar and electric bass, students must be enrolled in either the
Concert or Symphonic Band in order to participate.
Chamber Ensembles: Small instrumental groups such as a
flute choir, saxophone quartet, brass choir or percussion ensemble which meet
after school and prepare selections for local functions and events.
