Dr. Timothy Kerwin

Dr. Kerwin is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in music education. In 1989, after three years teaching elementary school music, he began teaching with CPS at Marshal H. S. Following a year at Marshal, teaching band, guitar, and music theory, he went on to Curie and taught those same subjects for three years. The next ten years brought about more work with elementary school bands and classroom music and a two year residency at Indiana University where he received the Doctor of Music degree in French horn performance and brass pedagogy in 2003.

Electronic Music I
GRADES OFFERED: 9-12 PREREQUISITES: None (Successfully complete this course satisfies the Music graduation requirement) CREDIT: 1 (Single period) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Learn traditional music theory, keyboard skills and the basic elements of music, using current computers/synthesizer technology. Record completed compositions on cassette or DAT tape.

Electronic Music II
GRADES OFFERED; 10-12 PREREQUISITES: Electronic Music I or consent of instructor CREDIT: 1 (Single period) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Learn MIDI processes and MIDI studio while utilizing various MAC/synyth workstation and more advanced theory and keyboard skills. Record compositions on cassette or DAT tape. (Students may also audition for TOTALLY WIRED, Curie's Electronic Music performance ensemble.)

Electronic Music III
GRADES OFFERED: 10-12 PREREQUISITES: Electronic Music I or consent of instructor CREDIT: 2 (Double period) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Study the science of sound and the basic building blocks of various synthesis and sampling processes. Develop theory, keyboard and performance Skills with emphasis in many contemporary styles and forms, such as blues, pop, jazz, and Latin music

Electronic Music IV
GRADES OFFERED: 12 PREREQUISITE: Electronic Music III or consent of instructor CREDIT: 2 (Double period) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Combine, develop, and refine all of the previous theories, concepts, and skills; learn how to record visual and audio performance using hard disk computer and CD-recording technology. Produce as a final project a music portfolio "demo" on cassette, DAT, or CD.
