Dr. Sandra Leconte

Dr. Laconte has taught vocal music at Austin High School, Clemente High School, John Marshall High School, Orr High School, and Hyde Park Career Academy in Chicago. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree (Xavier University, New Orleans, LA), a Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance (Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, 1980), an Honorary Doctor of Music Degree (Birmingham, AL, 1993), an Advanced Study in Administration (National-Louis University, Wheeling, IL, 1997), and an earned Doctor of Educational Leadership Degree (Argosy University, Sarasota, FL, 2005). She performs as a soloist in the Chicago land area. Her repertoire includes opera (soprano), oratorio, jazz, and gospel music. She is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (the Grammy Awards) and a former Governor of the Chicago chapter. She is “thrilled at the opportunity to teach at Curie High School.”

Beginning Chorus
GRADES OFFERED: 9-12 PREREQUISITES: None (Successfully completed, this course satisfies the music graduation requirement.) CREDIT: 1 (Single period) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Learn the fundamentals of singing techniques and musicianship, utilizing music theory and performance skills through a wide variety of traditional and contemporary music. Enjoy the opportunity to perform in public.

Vocal Music I
GRADES OFFERED: 10 PREREQUISITES: Beginning Chorus or audition. Performing Art Approval CREDIT: 1 (Single period) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Continue to develop your singing and musical skills while Performing more advanced music. Benefit from reinforcement of vocal technique and musicianship.

Vocal Music II
GRADES OFFERED: 11 PREREQUISITES: Vocal Music I and/or audition CREDIT: 2 (Double period) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Learn advanced vocal techniques while participating in a major performing group. Perform frequently at school, in the community, and at state and citywide music festivals as a soloist and in ensembles. Members in this class receive instruction in show choir and/or ensemble and solo performance.

Vocal Music III
GRADES OFFERED: 12 PREREQUISITES: Vocal Music II and/or audition CREDIT: 2 (Double period) COURSE DESCRIPTION: Learn advanced vocal technique while participating in a Major performing group. Perform frequently at school, in the community, and at state and citywide festivals as a soloist and in ensembles. Members of this class receive instruction in show and/or ensemble and solo performance.
