Uzbekistan is a country in central Asia. Located in the heart of Central Asia between the Amu Darya (Oxus) and Syr Darya (Jaxartes) Rivers. Uzbekistan was the site of one of the world's oldest civilized regions. The ancient Persian Province of Sogdiana, was conquered in the 4th century by Alexander the Great. Also large quantities of rice comes from Uzbekistan. There is an extensive use for irrigation for farming. The water for irrigation from the Aral Sea is drying up the sea and is also reducing the flow of freshwater in this region Industrialization has increased after World War II for many industries from European Russia to a less vulnerable Uzbek region. My Educational lesson plan:

          "Discover Your World"

Culture:  Geography Lesson
Grade: 5
Number of students: no more than twenty students.
Time: 30-60 minutes over a couple of weeks this gives the students time to think and not rush on the assignment.

Geography Standard:

Anticipatory Set:
Everyone wants to take a vacation to a far off place. Where is one place in the state, country or world that you would like to visit? If you had the opportunity to visit this place what would you do? How would you get there? What would you visit? In groups, we are going to find a place where all members of the group would like to visit. As a group, we are going to brainstorm some ideas where groups can visit. ( After we com up with some ideas we are going to write each idea on a big piece of paper, overhead, chalkboard) When the groups complete the project we will report the information that each group has found .

Objectives:
The student groups will:
1. Locate a place on a map where the group would like to visit.
2. Decide on main goals of vacation. Where you will stay? What will you do? How will you get there? How many people are going with you? (All questions will be on a separate questionnaire)
3. Write a complete report on the outcome of the findings
4. Illustrate skills in mathematics, geography, writing and public speaking.
5. Develop life skills relating to the activity of planning a trip.

Teacher Input:
The student groups will: (What the student will get out of this assignment not done yet)
1. Develop vocabulary such as miles, payment, terms at vacation location, etc.
2. Demonstrate the connection between classroom activities and real life experiences.
3. Find a route to the location of choice. (Car, train, bus, or plane)
4. Identify methods which where used to find information pertaining to the groups vacation. Examples: (Internet, phone calls, newspaper.)
5. Construct a plan for the trip.
6. Report the final plan for the vacation.

Outcome: This will help the students with learning about different places on the map and also information about different countries and cultures because they will have to decide as a group where the would like to go and have to give me information about the country or city they chose. So in doing this they will have to research places that each group member would like to go and pick from those locations one. That means that they will need information about those places in order to have an enjoyable vacation they must know a bout where they are going to travel and what the culture is like.

Standard:

Six How Culture and Experience Influence People’s Perceptions of Places and Regions

I choose this standard because it pertains to my web page. People’s views of a particular place or region are extent, characteristics, and significance as influenced by their own culture and experience.
