Karavan of Dreams performs an American Tribal Style of Belly Dance using moves and stylistic elements borrowed from the folkloric dances of the Middle East, East Indian, Flamenco and American Modern Dance. This style is unique in that it is based upon group improvisation. The result: A performance that offers the excitement of improv within a mesmerizing, unified group statement. The movements honor the music and no two performances are ever the same. Tribal Belly Dance is a speific style of dance comprised of many distinct elements. One of the most apparent distinctions is the elaborate costume which often consists of layers of fabric, decorated turbans, and heavy ethnic jewelry. Performances are seldom choreogrphed but rather cued from a vocabulary of movement by a designated lead dancer. This encourages a spirit of team work, awareness and cooperation, all parts of being a "tribe". This format of dance has taken many hours of practice and dedication to accomplish this dance.
