A NIRVANA Fan Pays $7,300
A NIRVANA fan has paid over $7,000 in an auction to buy a private plane ride with KRIST NOVOSELIC .
Last week a private plane ride and lunch with the former bass player was put up for sale on the Internet auction site eBay .
The bidding has now ended, with the winner spending US $7,300.00.
The successful bidder will be picked up at a US West Coast airport and flown to a restaurant of their choice.
While Novoselic is more occupied with his political career in Washington than rock these days, he is also a keen pilot with his own Cessna 182 Skylane Jet .
The auction was in aid of People For The American Way , which bills itself as "a non-profit, non-partisan organisation committed to promoting political awareness, civic participation and providing legislators with the support they need to counter the agenda of the extreme right and protect against encroachments upon our freedoms and civil rights".
Novoselic said: "I am happy to share the wonders of aviation and remind the winners to be careful during the most dangerous phase of flight – the drive to and from the airport."

Nirvana Inspired Film Recreates Suicide
"Now we've done it, and it's too late to be scared” - director Gus Van Sant has been talking about his new movie ‘Last Days' which takes inspiration for its main character from the late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain.
As previously reported the new movie is based around characters inspired by Kurt Cobain and then events surrounding his death in 1994 , and has been shot in a semi-documentary style similar to Van Sant 's last movie ‘Elephant' .
The film is causing much agitation amongst Nirvana fans, not only for its inclusion of cherubic Dawson's Creek -star Michael Pitt as the Cobain -esque rock star lead, but also for the depiction of the main character's eventually suicide (however obliquely).
"Now we've done it, and it's too late to be scared," Van Sant said in an interview with www.mtv.com "I'm scared of it in general, but I'm happy with the way things have gone so far."
"We're not showing anything specifically that's challenging anyone. There's not really any drugs in the film. Some people appear to be on drugs, but you don't see any drugs. There is a gun. But it's all oblique. There are a lot of little things that happen that add up to not so much the story as much as the environment. He plays his guitar, he sings a song, a telephone yellow pages salesman visits him, he watches TV. Things like that are very large. But there are no answers, no 'this is causing that.' "
Despite the project's reported blessing from Cobain's ex-wife Courtney Love , ‘Last Days' claims its not suggesting why Cobain killed himself, only offering a hypothetical case for what may have driven a like Cobain-like character to suicide.
"He's like a Shakespearean Hamlet , reflecting on his personal ghosts and demons,” Van Sant explained, “And while I don't know what his were, I'm imagining what they might have been. It's pretty much his thing. He's alone."
"If you know something about the character, there's more of an impact. If you know nothing at all, there's still an impact, but it's more abstract. There's a lot of pressure suggested, and anyone that's experienced pressure can relate."
‘Last Days' is excepted to be released early in 2005.
