Dan Watkins

(This is me at my senior recital. Piano, Adam Hochstatter; Bass, Mike Huttlin; Drums, Chris Dahl.)
((It was raining that night.))

Classical Recordings

>Movement 1 of Robert Muczynski's Sonata Opus. 29 for Alto Saxophone and Piano

Movement 2 of Robert Muczynski's Sonata Opus. 29 for Alto Saxophone and Piano

Movement 2 of Paul Creston's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano

Movement 3 of Paul Creston's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano

(Note: The portions of the Creston were recorded at my senior recital, 4 June 2005. Mike Olson is the accompanist.)

Jazz Recordings

Emptiness

(This tune was written by a friend of mine I met at International Music Camp. Hailing from Sundsvall, Sweden, Magnus Hagglund sent me this piece and I knew I needed to play it. Originally titled "Tomheten," this piece was recorded at my highschool jazz band's final concert.)

Besame Mucho

Yesterdays

(This is a live recording of my senior recital last June. In the combo are my friends Mike Huttlin (Bass), Adam Hochstatter (piano), and Chris Dahl (drums). If you want a chuckle, listen to my nearly botched effort to count off the tune.)

There Is No Greater Love

Georgia On My Mind

(Sorry about the .wmv format -- this is a recording from my father's video camera, I got rid of the video, but can't figure out how to change this to .mp3.)

Vocal Recordings

Fly Me to the Moon

To Where You Are

(A note: Another senior recital recording. I am singing and playing piano. As you may be able to tell by the inconsistant tempo and occasional out-of-tune note, I was incredibly nervous about the whole singing-while-playing thing.)

False Phillis

(The "classical" piece I sang at my senior recital. The accompanist is Mike Olson.)

A little about me, perhaps.

I am currently a sophomore at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, studying saxophone with Steve Jordheim. I started playing the alto sax in 6th grade, and have since picked up tenor and soprano saxes, in addition to taking voice lessons. My main foci in music are jazz and "classical" saxophone. Beyond the sax, I also enjoy singing and listening to jazz and classical vocal music.

I must give credit to those who have helped me to get to where I am, and continue to push me to excel. First and foremost, I thank my parents who have given me more opportunities and encouragement than any child deserves (as well as a number of saxophones). I also thank my past saxophone teachers Russ Peterson of Concordia College and Dr. Matt Patnode of North Dakota State University. Both of these men are magnificent players and teachers, and without their inspiration I highly doubt I would still be playing today. Credit is also due to David Midboe, my voice teacher; it is not everyday you meet men with Mr. Midboe's talent for both singing and teaching. There are many, many others who deserve as much credit as these mentioned, however, I've already become long-winded and think it's about time to end this paragraph.

I hope you've enjoyed. If you'd like to get in touch with me, or hear any of the recordings that don't currently have links, I can be found at danthesaxman@hotmail.com
