Debasmita is specialising her professional career in the Library and Information Services through day to day job experiences, regular professional development courses, further studies and research. She is currently a valuable staff member of the Cairns Library (Health Care Libraries; recently has been awarded the highest level of national accreditation for NHS libraries; http://www.oxfordradcliffe.nhs.uk/news/orhnews/2008/0804orhnews.pdf) as a Senior Library Assistant (Cataloguing & Acquisitions). Before she joined the Cairns Library she worked as an Archive Assistant at the Department of Special Collections and Western Manuscripts, Bodleian Library, the University of Oxford. Previous to that she worked as a Retrospective Conversion Cataloguer in the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences Library of the University of Oxford on a key cataloguing project.

She graduated with honours in History (2000) from The University of Calcutta, India following a post graduation (2002) in Modern History from the same University. After successful completion of her Masters, she joined (2002) a Govt. Sponsored Unit Library as an assistant librarian. Around the same time, she was also actively associated with voluntary charity work in India. She worked and contributed positively towards the society either on her own initiative or as a team member in various projects.

Debasmita came to the city of dreaming spires in the year 2003. Besides her full time work in the Oxford University Library Services, she is a brilliant Indian Classical Vocalist specialized in Tagore's song and awarded Diploma in Hindustani Classical Music from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, India. Debasmita practices her specialized style of singing for many years and teaches her music in and around London. She has performed numerous prestigious cultural events in India and in UK [Cowley Road Carnival – 2004, “Purba Raag” an evening of Indian Classical Music and Dance (12th February, 2005) at Jacqueline du Pre Music Building, St Hilda’s College, The University of Oxford]. The Oxford Mail has both previewed and reviewed her performances in many occassions. She loves cooking Indian dishes. In her spare moments, she reads storybooks.

Scholarship: Debasmita was awarded a prestigious National Scholarship for Merit by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, India for her outstanding performance (80%) in Secondary Examinations (1995).
