CISCO COLBY

Hello my name is Cisco Colby I am from Tampa, Florida and welcome to my website. My musical project was formed in 2000. I picked up a guitar when I was eleven and have not put it down since. I could not classify myself into specific genre of music, but I do have strong influences from John Frusciante, Hendrix, Yellowcard, and Jack Johnson. I sing and play from the heart. I have written and recorded some songs. Four of the songs can be heard by going to this link. Thank you for supporting original music.

TONE AND STRINGS

I prefer using the Takamine acoustic guitar with some heavier strings. I think a deeper sound with open strings is the way to go. Also I prefer using Martin strings with a thicker gage. I don't like playing out by myself with light strings, it just does not have a warm feeling. You have probably heard some people when they play out using light strings and all treble, it sounds terrible. You will have to get used to playing with thicker strings at first but I think the benifits pay off in the end. You get a more well rounded warmer tone. I think Im just a sound junkie...LOL. I can spend all night messing with the sound.

GEAR AND SOUND

I prefer using a Shure SM-58 microphone for vocals with a digi-tech 3000 voice processor. I use the voice processor on certain songs or if your in a place with really bad acoustics it helps out a bit. I like to change the sounds of some songs when I play live unless I am in a big hurry. Make sure you have one or two friends who can give you crticism on the sound. I usually had a friend tell me I was not singing choruses with meaning and this really helped me out. One good tip I can give is to mic your guitar with a pick-up and a good live mic in front of the hole facing the bridge for awesome sound! Don't sell yourself short.... WOW look at my boy John!!

WHEN IN DOUBT.....

When you think of putting that guitar down, or when you know you're playing songs that don't make you happy but make others happy. Remember this, Kurt Cobain once said 'You can play a song anyway you want and be as sloppy as you want, as long as its good and it has passion'. Play and write music for the passion..........Not for the $$$$$$$$$$$. Once I get back to Tampa I'll keep you updated on new CD's and music from me. I'd like to say hi to all in the Tampa Bay area. Please feel free to sign my guestbook and look around. Holla, peace out, Cisco
