Hey, this is Mike. I started to play bass around September of 2002. Before that I was fooling around with piano and keyboards. After a rather nasty dispute revolving around the importance of a piano, I decided to switch to something else. One of my favorite bands is Third Eye Blind. I specifically liked their bassist, Arion Salazar. This guy is just the man. Well, I believe he is what inspired me to pick up the bass. After this decision, I need to get my fingers moving across a guitar. Well, I did. A Ibanez GSR200 to be exact. My dad helped me pay for it for my birthday and then on the next holiday we bought my Genz Benz amp. It's a nice little hog. After I bought my equipment, I had Brent (a bassist at the time) teach me about the guitar and different ways to play it. Brent himself was making his transformation into a great lead guitarist at the time. I took what I knew about the bass and music and started molding my style. I've never had lessons and I like to know that I am the one that brought me to this level. Well, at the time Nick Brown, a good friend of ours, was playing around with acoustic guitars and when we all talked together we decided to jam sometime. After some jam sessions it was decided that we should get a name for ourselves. This was a long and difficult process. After a few temp. names and ideas, we came up with Taste of Chains. We started writing songs and crap and began to wonder what we would do for drums. Dan Newman is the man, with the masta plan. We convinced him to play. He picked it up very quickly. Even now, its hard to belive he only started playing at the beginning of this year. Well, its been some time and we currently have three originals done, except for lyrics, and cover Man in the box (AIC). We are currently deciding on the next cover and struggling with the singer situation. Woot.
