I eagerly anticipated this show as, about six weeks ago, I saw Luciano at his record release party at Jamaica Live at the Dragonfly. This Crash Mansion show was another of the great productions put on by Jamaica Live. Thanks to the publicist, Russell Gerlach, for making this review possible.
The room was packed as the Jah Messenjah Band took the stage about 11 pm. First up was long time associate in music and friend of Luciano, Mikey General, who livened up the crowd with “Power of the Most High, Jah.” At one point in his show, Mikey talked about the tribulations he went through in choosing to wear dreadlocks and his choice of the Rastafar-I path. He did a short but magnificent set.
Then came Jah Messenjah and reggae king Luciano. He came on the stage quietly singing “I Remember When.” He changed the mood radically on his next tune, the famous, “Messenjah,” from his album of the same name. His next song was “Give Praise to Rastafar-I,” from his “Serious Times” cd. He has such a wonderful repertoire to draw from that every song that he played seemed a hit song.. He performed “Ulterior Motive” and “Sweep Over My Soul” from the “Sweep Over My Soul” cd. There was a wonderful medley from his legendary cd “Where There Is Life” cd which included, “Who Can It Be,” “Your World and Mine” and “Good God.” He blessed us with three songs from his latest release, “Jah Is My Navigator,” including the title track, the Bob Marley classic, “Jah Live,” and his newest hit single, “No Evil,” which closed his set. His show is always so entertaining as he is a magnificent dancer and really flashes his locks as he bounds across the stage. He returned to the stage for his encore, “It’s Me Again Jah” during which he kneeled in prayer. Luciano you are a bright star in the sky to me. I never want to miss one of your shows and the people shouldn’t either. Big up to all of your crew.
