HOLMWOOD GIRLS COACH Maurice Wilson has the responsibility of conditioning some of the nation's top junior athletes for the VMBS/ISSA Boys & Girls Athletics Championships.
Wilson told STAR Sports track & field is his life. He said he does "nothing" outside of athletics.
"Track & Field is a hobby for me, it's a job. I spend most of my time reading and the books I read are about athletics," said the man who described himself as a family-oriented person.
Coach of arguably the best crop of schoolgirls, Wilson has a strong resume which spells success from his entry into coaching in 1990. His first assignment was Ferncourt High and even though he did not work any miracles with the team, Wilson said he produced some quality athletes.
However, his first real impact was on his move to Clarendon College in 1993. Under his stewardship they were adjudged the most improved school.
He also helped in the nurturing of sprinter/long jumper Bernard Burrell, speedster Steve Sloley, before he left for to St. Jago and afterwards Texas Christian University (TCU).
On all those prior assignments, Wilson never reaped the success he now enjoys at Holmwood Technical.
He has had winning 4x800 teams four years in a row (98-2001) at the Penn Relays. He also took the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800m event at the same championships in 2001.
As Wilson put it, "when you check the records in terms of the Junior's performance on the international scene, I have had tremendous success".
