Ben Folds, Darren Jessee, and Robert Sledge formed Ben Folds Five in 1993.  Folds used his baby grand piano as the main source for the band's rhythm.  Their first album, Ben Folds Five, was released in 1995, and in 1997, Whatever & Ever Amen appeared. In 1998, they toured to help support their CD of rare recordings and live performances, Naked Baby Photos.  In early 1999, the group's last album was released, The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner.  Folds later announced that the group was splitting up, and he released his first solo album in September of 2001.
