She is a classically trained pianist and a former student at Manhattan's Professional Performance Arts School.  Her debut album, Songs In A Minor, was released in July of 2001.  She then received five awards at the following year's Grammy Awards, three of which are Song of the Year ("Fallin'"), Best R&B Album (Songs In A Minor), and Best New Artist.  Her next album was one of the most anticipated releases of 2003.  The Diary of Alicia Keys debuted at the top of the US charts and her single "You Don't Know My Name" was a big hit.
