Stylistic Considerations

This piece requires legato and expressive playing throughout. The phrases should have subtle shading at the discretion of the conductor. Each entrance should be very smooth and hidden. While the tempo markings are given, the conductor also add rubato markings at his discretion. While it isn't marked in the actual score, beat 4 could be slightly lengthened to further delay the resolving downbeat. Extra time may also be taken before the start of each section (at letters A, B, C, and D). Through the entire piece the ensemble should sustain a round, full tone (even when it is marked fortissimo).
