In the Nutshell For September
IN The NUTSHELL
By Lynn Ramage'

Thanks to Connie Burnham from the E-Center, I got to review Lollopalooza this year! I really hate will call mix-ups! Despite the fact that It was a really hot day and there was plenty of sunburned fans to go around as were only a few typically painted boobies (I'm not into that, but my escort was pretty amazed that girls do this in public) This year's Palooza was pretty low key. I was not that impressed with some of the second staged acts at all and I certainly do not see what all the fuss is about "Queens of the Stone Age." I was totally not impressed.
My main goal was to see "Audioslave" and they stole the whole day! Vocalist Chris Cornell did an excellent job and the band played for almost
an hour. They did just about every song on the CD. I wish the song "What you Are" would get some airplay, but since I long gave up on listening to Philadelphia's all talk radio it's a wonder anything gets played around here. Their label sent me a great press package and the I haven't been as into a CD as I am with Audioslave since when "The Cult" came out with "Sonic Temple. AudioSlave is and will be my favorite pick for 2003.
The Pirates Den in Glocester, NJ, had a great night with The Hixon, Shadow Dance and a band in from Sweden called "Fatal Smile." I have joined forces with Fatal Smiles manager Robin and her and I are going to work together in hopes to improve our metal scene more via the net. After that show, "The Hixon" took off to Nashville and "Shadowdance, Single Bullet Theory and Brick Bath all got stuck on their Crash Record tour in the power Outage in all places "Cleveland, Ohio" The Road Warriors should all be back home sometime in the fall. The Hixon contacted me (daily in fact) to say they shook up Nashville, which I am sure they did well. The Hixon will be having a metal benefit for Breast Cancer in October so stayed tuned for that. You've got to see this band, (pictured). I just contacted the band Helloween to bring them into Philly and they responded that maybe next time they hit the states they'll give me a jingle for a show in Philly.
VH1 contacted me for an interview regarding the book due out September 28th. "Rock and Roll War Stories" was written with my Co author Gordon Gebert (AKA Kiss and Tell. They started digging into the dirt dirt if you know what I mean and personally that just won't sit well with certain people out there! So that was kinda interesting. When the interview was over they said basically they were hoping I had "camped out" with more up to date Rockstars only for example like; Limp Biscuit, Korn or something like that...well now!~
I received Type O Negatives New CD " Life is Killing Me ." I wasn't overly wowed by the first song or two, but deeper in to the CD, I was very glad to hear the TYPE O sound that I have grown to just love. Josh Silver is by far one of my favorite Keyboard players. The CD reeks with Darkness and anyone with "A Darkside" will long for this effort. I liked the track "Nettie" I detected a new Duetch accent and can't help but wonder if Vocalist Peter Steele hasn't been hanging out with German Goddess DORO a lot whom we found doing a duo with Steele on her last CD "Fight." Over all I liked this almost as much as Bloody Kisses.
Marilyn Manson's latest CD "The Golden Age of Grotesque" is one of his best efforts to date. This is not a dust collector. Our hero has not disappointed the masses by going on in some other direction. This CD is Manson. The master of disguises is genuinely a very creative artist. My favorite track was "Saint." I foresee tracks hopefully used in Movie soundtracks (horror of course). Ironically, I discovered Manson is now using a mark (symbol) I have been signing to the bottom of my name forever. To sum it up I like this CD a whole lot. Will we hear it on the radio? Well, now that WYSP has actually gone back to being a real radio station, as in music (that I might now listen to) we can only hold hope, with any luck someone will toss all those OLD over played AC/DC and Guns and Roses Discs and get with the program. Is anyone paying attention out there? Start calling and requesting Manson!
I received a Mountain CD for review, like where have they been for what 20 years? The CD Called "Nantucket Sleighride." I might guess this is a re-release? It really reminded me of Deep Purple, sorry that's about as far back as I go. In my High School daze. Wow this CD was like a blast from the past! It's great! No folks, Mississippi Queen is not on this CD.
I have American Sugar Bitch, KRANK, and a band called "Y" in at the Pirates Den on Sept. 26 which should be a fun night. Hoppy Riddle and I are planning an Empire/Cellblock reunion Party at the Den in November. Any bands preferably from back in the day (Looking for the Cream of the Crop bands; Heavins Edge, Dead End Kids, Spread Eagle, Sic Vicky, Surrender Dorothy, Deadly Blessing, Gypsy Rose, MetalWolf, Naughty Jane, Rattlehead,) that actually played the Cellblock or Empire wanting to play contact me via email. We're also hoping to get some "surprise artists" to get up and play with some of the bands.
Last but not Least I will be covering David Lee Roth at the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA on Sept 17th. It's a nice warm venue and I expect it should be a very good show. I am hoping to get some great photos down there.
