Midnight Maddness

Benji nodded and rubbed his eyes with his palm. Joel’s thumb comfortingly traced over the back of Benji’s hand as Joel looked around the room.

“Let’s try and sleep, then as soon as it gets light out we’ll get the hell outta here,” Joel whispered.

Benji nodded as he felt Joel shift and lay down in the bed, never letting go of Benji’s hand. Benji slid down next to him. And closed his eyes. After a few minutes of silence Joel felt Benji begin to tremble again.

“Benj, Benji calm down. We’re okay. Benji stop, we’re okay.”

Benji nodded but let go of Joel’s hand. He turned on his side and put his back to Joel.

Joel watched Benji’s back as he trembled. “Benji,” Joel whispered, “Benj come here.” Joel pulled Benji by his hips closer to him. He put his chest to Benji’s back and rested Benji’s head on his bicep. Joel slid his hand down Benji’s arm and rested over the back of his hand. “Shhhh. It’s okay. We’re fine, shhhh.” He whispered.

After about an eternity of Joel whispering calming words, Benji’s trembles finally calmed down and Joel could feel his heartbeat slow. Joel thought Benji was asleep until he shifted in his arms and turned to face him.

They just stared at each other and Benji finally spoke, “Why aren’t you scared?”

“I am, believe me I am.” Joel nodded pulling Benji closer to his chest.

“How do you not show it,” Benji asked resting his head on Joel’s sternum.

“I am,” Joel whispered, “I just feel safe knowing you’re here.” He said as he tilted Benji’s head up to his. “I don’t…….don’t know why but…….I’m going to kiss you.”

After a second Joel leaned down and set his lips whisper-lightly on Benji’s lips. Barely touching but soo comforting.

Joel pulled away and looked at Benji. Benji looked back.

Their lips magnetically drawn together followed by shaking bodies.

Shaking from fear and confusion.

Lying there side by side. Sharing warmth, fright, uncertainty, desire, affection, themselves.

Moving slowly together. It was like nothing either of them had felt before.

Their bodies rubbing together making identical moans escape breathless throats.

Benji squeezed his eyes shut and set his head on Joel’s shoulder as his movement became just too much to handle.

Benji moaned one last time as he came, Joel following.

They curled together and breathed unevenly until they were once again calm.

“I don’t want to stay any longer,” Benji half whispered half sobbed.

Joel nodded, “Let’s get out.”

They got dressed and made their way out of the room and down the dreary, dark halls. Trying to remember the way they came from the front door. Benji attached to Joel’s side once again.

As they walked down the blood red carpet to the foyer and stepped off the last step they heard a door creak open and then shut.

Benji grasped Joel’s hand tight again and froze. Joel turned and whispered, “No come on we’re almost there.”

“Where are our toys, I mean guests, going?” A voice rang through the dead open space behind them.

Joel reached the doorknob and dragged it open. He pulled Benji quickly out of the house and they broke into a run as soon as their feet hit the ground.

“You’ll never make it,” the voice called again.

Benji and Joel ran faster over the slick grass. They were out in the glade in front of the house.

“Come back.”

The grass was wet and Joel slid. Benji halted as his feet faltered but regained his balance and grabbed Joel by the once again drenched shirt.

Joel’s feet slid as he tried to get up in the mud. He was standing once again but before they could move they were stopped.

“I said you’d never make it,” the voice rang from right behind them.

Benji jumped up with a start. His breathing ragged and mind racing.

“Benj? What’s wrong?” Joel asked as he adjusted the windshield wipers to work faster.

“I……...I……..had a nightmare,” he said his voice shaky and body in a cold sweat.

“It’s okay, I’m here.” Joel said reaching over and grabbing Benji’s hand.

Benji looked down at Joel’s hand clenching his.

“We’re okay.” Joel continued. Benji looked back up at his twin. There was silence as the rain beat down on the roof of the car.

Then the silence was broken.

“What was that bang?” Benji asked worriedly.

“We must have a blow out.”
