Make It Easier

1 - I’ll Be Heading Home

“Bro come on, come out with us,” Benji said through the hotel suite door.

“No, I told you, I don’t feel like going out,” Joel yelled.

“Dude, you have done nothing but mope around this hotel room for the past two weeks,” Benji said opening the door anyways, “what’s wrong?”

Joel was lying on one of the beds in the dim room. “I'm fine. I just don’t feel like doing anything. I’m tired Benji, I’ll see you and Paul later,” he said turning away from Benji.

“Fine. You have my cell, we might be late,” Benji said shaking his head. “Oh yeah, Billy called. I would have given you the phone but you were moping. His plane is getting in tomorrow morning at nine- so if we’re not here that’s where we are. See ya.”

As Benji shut the door behind him, Joel smiled to himself. He would get to see his Billy tomorrow.

“What are you doing up?” Paul asked as I came out of the room. “It’s only 7:30, is something wrong?”

I smiled as I sat next to him, “Morning. Nah, I'm good.”

Paul looked at me like I was a ghost.

“What?” I asked. He shook his head and shrugged. “Benj in the shower?”

“Yeah. So are you coming with us to pick up Billy?”

I nodded, hiding my excitement as best I could.

A few minutes later Benji came out of the shower and gave me a look similar to Paul’s. “You’re up.”

“Yeah,” I smiled. “What time does the flight get in again?” I asked nonchalantly.

They answer with nine, and I glance at the clock. Almost 8:00. One hour.

“Hey since I'm up, I’ll go get Lil Billy.” I offer, no- state really.

With no objection just confused looks as to why I'm actually functioning, I slip out the hotel and into the rental car making my way to the airport.

When Joel finally parked it was 8:30. He walked into the airport pulling his hat down so nobody could recognize him and keep him from his target.

Joel sat down in the chairs at the gate letting his mind wander to his love.

Sure the phone calls were wonderful but nothing compares to actually having someone next to you.

Holding them.

Listening to every breath.

Every heartbeat.

Just being able to look over and see that one person that can make the world a little bit easier to bear.

“Flight 126 now arriving.”

Joel stood as the first few people began walking up the jetway (ya know that thing).

Pushing his hands in his pockets Joel waited for Billy to get off the plane.

Seeing those familiar sparkling blue eyes from afar, his heart skipped and a smile crept to his face.

Billy stepped up to Joel and they embraced.

Joel’s arms wrapping around the taller man’s ribs.

Billy leaning his cheek on the side of Joel’s head.

“I missed you soo much.”

“Couldn’t sleep with you so far away.”

“I never stopped thinking about you.”

“You sure you don’t want to come with us?”

“Nah,” Billy replied, “I’m jetlaggin.”

“Joel?” “No, I'm gonna take a shower.”

“Okay we’ll be back with dinner in like 30 minutes,” and with that Benji and Paul left them in the hotel room.

Joel walked to the door locking it securely and turning around back to Billy.

Billy was lying on the couch, a smile on his face, looking longingly at Joel.

“I’ve been wanting to do this all day,” Joel said as he slid his body over Billy’s. He leaned down and kissed the soft lips before him.

Taking in the taste of Billy. The feel of the body under his fingertips. Warm breath on his neck.

His own one person that makes the world easier to bear.
