1st Annual Kurtis
Music Awards Nominations
"It's the holy grail of music....a Kurtis music award."
Who
would think boredom would do such a thing -- Kurtis creating his own music
award.
We have the Grammys and a whole other slew of other pointless
music awards. However, NOTHING compares to the greatness of THE KURITS MUSIC
AWARDS.
"It's like the Grammys, but better," he said, "We don't give
out this award to just anyone. Only the best artists of the previous year are
nominated."
The Kurtis Music Awards are eligible to any musical artist
from the previous year (January 2003 - December 2003). The cut-off date to be
nominated is December 31, 2003. From there, Kurtis looks back at the year in
music and then makes his decision of nominations. He then makes his choice of
the actual winner at later point in time.
With it being the first year of presenting this award, there
are only six nomination categories.
"The less the merrier, I always say. Ok...maybe not....but I
think you get the point," said Kurtis himself.
He also says, "If you hate The Kurtis Music Awards THE HOLY
GRAIL OF MUSIC....then you can just stab me in the heart with a plastic fork,
for NO ONE hates the Kurtis Music Awards. I can't believe you would ask me such
this question."
We apologize Kurtis. Here's a look at all the tidbits on the
nomination categories, according to Kurtis.
Record of the Year - "You might be thinking to yourself, who still
listens to records? What in the heck are records anyway? But this category has
nothing to do with those black plastic thingys. This award is all about a song
and the people who make it possible. This award is given to the artist and also
the engineers and producers who made the song possible. The record has to
be released as a single during the previous year (January 2003-December 2003).
Make sense? I don't think so either."
Album of the Year - "Just to let you know, an album is another name for a
CD. But this award is presented to an artist, as well as the producers who make
the CD (aka album) possible. Now the CD itself has to contain 60%+ of vocal
singing.
In my honest opinion, this is the hardest award to be nominated for. I buy so
many CDs in a year and the best of the best are even thought of even being
honored."
Song of the Year - "This is a song-writer award because who actually
writes their own music? But usually, the songs that are nominated in this
category, the artist writes their own music. Now, 'Song of the Year' nominations
must be released as a single in the previous year (January 2003-December 2003)."
Best Vocal Performance/Best Vocal Performance With A Group - "Ah yes,
it's all about live/studio recorded music and this nomination recognizes it.
Only the best singers, who can perform live and don't use voice modifiers (sorry Britney
Spears, looks like you're never going to get nominated for this one. OH....DISS),
are nominated. The best vocal performance with a group or whatever is with a
band and background vocals supporting you (an example would be like No Doubt).
Umm yah...I think that's it about this category. Oh yah, the song the singer(s)
sing has to be released as a single during the previous year."
Best Collaboration With Vocals - "It's a fancy shmancy term for a
duet. I'm getting pretty sick of saying the same thing over and over again, so you
figure out what this award is all about."
So there you have it. Pretty much everything you need to know
about The Kurtis Music Awards. All these without knowing, you are now
knowledgeable, young grasshopper. Kurtis is still smarter, though.
2004 NOMINATIONS
Like every year, the year 2003 rocked, rapped, and popped
(ok, woah, that was incredibly cheesy) and the Kurtis Music Awards recognizes
all those cool artists of the past year. Kurtis obviously was in a bad mood when
we talked to him about his own award show.
"I'm so sick of you asking me these stupid questions. Get a
life and a girlfriend and stop bugging me."
Kurtis - in response to your rudeness, I do have a
girlfriend. Her name is...umm...Veronica and she's invisible.
The winners will be announced on Saturday, April 10, 2004.
