Keri McInerney

Multi award winning Queensland entertainer Keri McInerney, is a very talented performer, singer and songwriter. Keri is also a caring person, so much so, that she has written an emotionally charged song, to coincide with the first anniversary of the Bali tragedy.

Keri who has 6 national hit singles, including a national Top 5, has included the talents of fellow National Country Music stars, Michael O’Rourke, Steve Tebbett and Michael Bryers in the collaboration project. Harmony vocalists include Nyree Klip and Mark Tempany.

Keri said the song “You’re Not There”, produced by Queenslands Michael Flanders, was written at a time in her life when she had lost several close family members and friends, including bush poet Bobby Miller and National Genealogist, Janet Reakes.

"The Bali tragedy, occurred at a very difficult time for me and it made me feel even more deeply saddened, for the many people touched by the events in Bali”, said Keri. “Those affected, didn’t get to say goodbye to their loved ones and in some cases, even twelve months later, still have family and friends missing”.

Keri McInerney said, “the entire recording session was a very emotional event for everyone involved in this special project”.

“A lot of good Australians were lost or badly injured in Bali a year ago and I hope that my song “You’re Not There”, will go some way to provide a little comfort to those still grieving for their loved ones”.

Keri said she was fortunate to have the inclusion of the two Michaels and Steve, as their input and talents made the recording session a wonderful experience.

“I wrote the song, to send a message to the Australian families affected by the tragedy, that the rest of the Country feels their loss and still cares even though one year has passed since the atrocity”. Keri said. “The lyrics for “You’re Not There”, came easily to me, as I really felt their pain”.

Keri McInerney said those who have heard the song, were deeply affected by the lyrics and many even shed a quite tear.

Peter Stapleton, Co-Ordinator of the Community Broadcasting Associations, Good Morning Country Program, said “’You’re Not There”, is a beautiful song and a fitting memorial to those lost or injured and to their families and friends”. He said “Keri McInerney is the ideal person to have written and recorded the song, as her sincerity and sensitivity shows through”.

Michael O’Rourke said, “I am extremely honoured to be included in this project”. “The entire experience was very moving”. “During the recording I realized the lyrics related to my own personal loss of my dad nine years ago…it was a very emotional moment”.

Another member of the Queensland collaboration on “You’re Not There”, was Steve Tebbett, who with this track made his first foray into Country Music. Steve said “It’s a very beautiful song which delivers a positive message”. Steve confirms the recording session was very emotional and says “the whole session was done in the spirit of love and not from the commercial realities of the recording industry”.

Keri McInerney has been in contact with many of the families affected by the Bali tragedy, the football clubs who lost team-mates and the organizers of the official National Memorial in Ulladulla, New South Wales, (which is being supported by the Federal Government).

Another guest artist on the Bali single is Micheal Bryers.

Keri says all monies raised from sales will assist in the funding of this memorial and will go to the development of a bursary to assist children to make possible their aspirations.

In addition to the song being a fitting tribute to the many Bali Victims, Keri McInerney also wishes to dedicate the song to the memory of the late King of Country - Slim Dusty. "The lyrics are amazingly apt at this time, with the sad loss of this great man". said Keri.

The CD, a double ‘A’ single, which will be released on October 1st. The single will not only include the Bali Anniversary Tribute “You’re Not There, but also the first official single from Keri’s forthcoming album.
