Hi, I'm Jd. I played basketball
for only three years. In that time, I've learned all there is to basketball,
whether it be physical or mental related.
My
freshmen year, I tried out for JV, but I didn't have the fundamentals
for it, so I was moved to Freshmen. There were only four of us on Freshmen,
and I was pointguard. My coach played some of the JV players to sub in
a full Freshmen team. At our second game, the girls from Hilltop told
the referees, and they disqualified us. Coach ended up putting all four
of us on JV. I didn't play the first four games, and my mom threatened
to take me off the team if I missed any more. When I finally went in,
I was taken out a minute later because I looked "lost" on the
court. The rest of the JV season went on like so, with only one win. That
same year, I joined Spring League, and became pointguard again. I scored
at least half the points in every game, and could drive people up for
layups and fouls.
By
sophomore year, I had learned to use my right hand almost as well as my
left hand and returned to JV. I tried to try out for Varsity, but my coach
dismissed my name from the list and I was back on JV. I was pointguard
again. The season ended with three wins.
My
junior year, I made Varsity. Halfway through pre-season, I realized how
much I disliked the new coach, who was a rookie, and I hated practices
even more. What I hated the most was the emotional distress she put on
everyone, and I decided to quit. My old coach allowed me to ena ct
as Assistant Coach, but he needed guards. So I joined JV again, and played
pointguard again. A new assistant coach for JV made the old plays better
and made us more confident. We came home with only three wins, but with
the happiness of a family, mi familia. Sometimes, more people came
to our JV games than to the Varsity girls games.
This
year, I made Varsity, as 1st captain and pointguard again. We went through
no wins in the Ramona Tournament, Kiwanis Tournament, and Crawford Tournament,
but we were a better team and family. I was injured numerous times in
that period; my lip go busted to the point where it looked like a pea
or two had been shoved under my lip; my knees were bruised or swollen;
my ankles were probably sprained; my right rib began to hurt again.
The
first game of the season, against Bonita, I landed on my knee wrong and
could only limp. I missed the Chula Vista game. Then, during the Eastlake
game, my knee buckled and I could hear my knee and its ligaments pull
wrong. Now, I'm out for the season, but I still support my team.
