Beowulf the Man Beowulf seems to be everything there is to a hero: courageous, strong, and outgoing. Unfortunately, people forget that he was a man, like the Clark Kent behind Superman or the Bruce Wayne behind Batman. He wasn't a godly figure. Beowulf was a man whose courage came to a tee with conceit. He argued with one of the young soldiers of how his swim with a famous knight was lost, but at no expense. He tried showing his strength and courage by facing Grendel's mother head-on in her watery lair. He even attempted to kill her the same way he killed Grendel: by tearing her apart with his bare hands. To me, that just shows that he likes to show off for a better reputation. His weakness lies within his arrogance and overconfidence. |
