* If you would like to arrange lessons at a time not listed, please contact me! I am willing arrange lessons in the mornings, early afternoons and on Saturdays as well as during the traditional after school hours listed above! Remember, students who have lessons during the morning and early afternoon (before the traditional and popular after school times), are eligible for at 20% discount on their tuition. The only times that are truly unavailable are Wednesday and Thursday after 6:00pm, and Sundays as I have other commitments during those times

**PLEASE NOTE: Lessons offered through The Tiger Connection resource program at St. Thomas Episcopal School are subject to their policies and fees. For example, last semester, this program required payment in full at time of registration and the fee was approximately $14 per lesson. Also, it appears that the program will not begin until the first week of September. If you require a lesson time that falls between 3:00pm and 6:00pm on Wednesday or Thursday, please contact me immediately so that I can help you get registered before all the spaces are filled!

Kindermusik ®

Kindermusik s the emerging community of families and teachers passionately committed to bringing music to children’s lives. Guided by a proven method of nurturing total development that reflects years of research and the input of hundreds of expert consultants, Kindermusik sparks magical, memorable learning for each and every child.  Each class is taught by a licensed Kindermusik professional, and all materials are of the highest quality available. There are Kindermusik curricula designed for children from birth to 7 years of age. This semester, we will be offering the following four classes:

Kindermusik Our Time

Just as the kangaroo bounds away and then back to the security of the pouch, the older toddler is eager to explore alone, then rushes back for reassurance. With engaging musical activities including instrument exploration, creative movement, listening and Music & Movement Story time, each our time curriculum focuses on the child’s healthy emotional development and recognizes his need for both independence and support.

This semester, the unit theme will be “Wiggles and Giggles.” This unit features songs, activities and literature books surrounding the ever-exciting themes of taking a bath, animal movements, and love for family and friends. The class fee includes a collection of materials to take home including 2 music and movement books, a home activity book, 2 CDs, a carry box/bag, and zigzag blocks.*

Dates: 15 classes, 45 minutes each, beginning September 2003

Time: TBA

Fee: $175, Additional children from the same family: $150*

Ages: 1 ½ - 3 years olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver for the entire class.

Location: St. Thomas Episcopal School, 1416 N. Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232

Kindermusik Box

Each class not only provides important musical experiences for children, but also reinforces important early childhood concepts such as numbers, colors, shapes and letters. In each unit, preschoolers will explore the world through exciting games and interactive songs that foster self-expression and creativity. Tapping out rhythms on sticks, shaking bells, moving, dancing, and singing are all part of the play each week! There are two units being offered this semester, one for 3 and 4 year olds, and the other for 4 and 5 year olds. The class fee includes a collection of materials to take home including a picture songbook, CD, Cards, Manipulatives, Music Box, and colorful stickers.*

“Music All Around”

Kindermusik for the Young Child

There are a total of four semesters in this curriculum. Semester 1 broadens the child’s musical experience through the introduction of the glockenspiel. Learning how to keep a steady beat plus reading and writing musical notations will help a child lay the initial groundwork for musical success! Like all Kindermusik curricula, Kindermusik for the Young Child is designed to provide age-appropriate musical experiences that lead the child toward a lifetime of joyful music making. It is meant to be a bridge between the musical play of early childhood and a more formally structured musical experience, such as individual lessons with a particular instrument, or participation in a choir. The class fee includes a collection of materials to take home including: Children’s folder, Games bag, Family Song book, Home CD, and Glockenspiel.*

Dates: There will be 15 classes, each 60 minutes in length. Parents are invited to join in for the final 15 minutes of each class.

Time: TBA

Fee: $230. Additional children from the same family: $150*

Ages: Children 5-7 years old

*Siblings receive a sibling kit that includes only a portion of the materials listed. Those materials that are not necessary to duplicate, such as CDs and books, are not included in the sibling kit.

Individual Instruction

At this time, individual instruction is offered to children who are at least 5 years old or have learned the alphabet. I also welcome beginning or returning adult students! For younger children, please consider Kindermusik offerings. All instruction is classically based, with popular, sacred, and other repertoire introduced as soon as possible, according to the interests of the student

Guitar

During private guitar lessons for the beginning to early intermediate student, students will learn to read music, play melodies and accompaniment for familiar songs, and gain an understanding of basic musical theory. Instruction is classically based with an emphasis on proper technique. As soon as possible, repertoire that suits the individual student’s interests will be introduced. Each student must have an acoustic guitar. It is recommended that for younger children you inquire as to whether a full size guitar or a ½ to ¾ scale guitar would be more appropriate when you purchase your instrument,

Dates: August 18-December 31.

Time: 30-45 minute lessons set individually. Please see Policies and Registration page for available times.

Fee: ½ hour weekly is $50/month. Discounts available for siblings and home schooling families. Please see Policies and Registration page for details.

Each student must have access to a piano or keyboard with at least 48 full size keys at least 3 days each week.

Dates: August 18-December 31.

Theory/History

These classes are designed for the older student who is ready to study at a level that requires more time than can be spent during individual instrumental instruction. Study of the history of music will include biographical information about composers. Music theory will cover concepts such as complex rhythm, aural recognition of pitch relationships, melodic and harmonic analysis, and composition. Information will be presented in an engaging manner and will include games and puzzles that demonstrate the concepts covered. Homework will be also assigned to reinforce concepts presented. If desired, classes can be arranged for a small group of students. This class is perfect for students in band, orchestra or choir who would like additional instruction, or for piano or guitar students who would like to participate in certain SAMTA student activities.

Dates: By arrangement. Contract may be set for 3 or more weeks, or the entire semester.

Time: 30-45 minutes for individuals, 45-60 minutes for small groups, set individually.
