BAND BIO
The Hi-Risers play fun, energetic, song-oriented Rock’n’Roll. After forming in 1998, founding members Gregory Townson (vocals, guitar) and Todd Bradley (vocals, bass) asked ace drummer and vocalist Jim Symonds to join the following year. Since then, the band has recorded its first CD, "Panic". They have also contributed recordings to two CD compilations.
The Hi-Risers are accomplished musicians who would rather entertain an audience than simply show off. The Hi-Risers have played to enthusiastic audiences in a wide variety of venues, including upscale niteclubs, country joints, blues clubs, punk dives, and outdoor family oriented festivals. All of Rock’n’Roll’s influences are present in the Hi-Risers’ music, whether it be rockabilly, rhythm and blues, country, or doo-wop. With their unique selection of songs, the Hi-Risers aim to please with integrity intact.
Todd and Greg began their musical partnership in 1984. In addition to playing with The Essentials and The Salamanders, they recorded with Rock’n’Roll Hall-of-Famer Hank Ballard, jazz legend Bill Doggett, funk pioneer Bootsy Collins, James Brown’s bandleader Pee Wee Ellis, and soul great John Ellison. On stage they have backed up everyone from Bo Diddley to Delbert McClinton! They have shared bills with such diverse acts as NRBQ, The Ramones, and many others. Todd and Greg’s recordings were reviewed favorably in Billboard, Guitar Player, Option, and other music publications.
Jim Symonds has performed for 15 years with Bobby Henrie and the Goners. In 1996 they released the highly acclaimed cassette, "Gone Guitar". Jim has also recorded with Jerry Engler (re-recording his 1950’s hit Sputnik (Satellite Girl)) and Frank Thayer. He has shared the stage with The Crickets, Johnny Paycheck, and many others. Jim is a highly respected musician who has devoted his talents to what he calls the ‘art of song.’
The appeal of the Hi-Risers is probably best expressed by a bar patron who, after hearing the band for the first time, declared "you would have to be a total jerk not to love this band!"
