Attendance and Cancellations: It is very important to attend lessons as per the formally printed schedules since both teacher and student may be very busy. Timely attendance to each lesson is expected by both parties. Make up lessons are given for legitimate reasons such as illness or personal/family emergency. In any of these events, I will be willing and able to work with you in order to find a suitable time to make up the lesson that you were unable to attend. If you miss a lesson for reasons other than specified, you should give me a call in advance to see if you can reschedule to an open time slot (if available) later that specific week. Apart from monetary forfeit resulting from repeated and lengthy unauthorized absence, both parties should be courteous to each other in making prior notification of unavoidable scheduling conflicts. Please be apprised of your weekly obligations before scheduling a lesson time and always call 24 hours in advance to leave me a message if your absence is unavoidable. If there is an emergency on the day of your lesson, please attempt to contact me at least 4 – 6 hours in advance in order to either speak with me or leave me a message.

New Students/Length of Lessons: I offer both 30-minute and 60-minute lessons depending on the student’s ability. Beginners usually receive 30-minute lessons; where as intermediate and advanced students receive hour-long lessons. Before lessons begin, new students should contact me in order to set up a consultation session where ability can discussed and assessed. This meeting should ultimately yield the fees involved and lesson length for each individual student. Parents and Guardians are more than welcome to attend the assessment session!

Materials: Students are expected to purchase printed music materials for use in private lessons. The type and amount of these materials will vary depending on the strengths and weaknesses of each individual student. As your instructor, I cannot provide any photocopied materials as it is against Copyright Law. It is important that you bring a pencil and practice journal to each lesson in addition to the assigned materials.

Self-diagnostic tools: I encourage students to keep a practice journal that they can bring to each lesson. In the practice journal, students should write down their questions or concerns that they think of during their everyday practice over the course of a week. Keeping a journal will allow you to remember items that you want to discuss with me during your weekly lesson. Also, I encourage you to record a sample of your flute playing each week. A cassette tape is an excellent tool that will allow you to fully concentrate on and hear the way you play the flute.
