~Chapter 15~

Jessica frowned over the phone at her friend Lauren.  “Fine.  I’ll work
on this weekend and give it to you on Monday.”
Lauren smiled gleefully into the phone.  “Oh come on Jessica.  Don’t be
such a soar looser!”

Michelle packed her suitcase.  She was very sad.  Deep down she knew
she was doing the right thing.  She just wished he had tried to talk to
her so she could see him or kiss him one last time.  Her eyes landed on
a photo of her Jesse from about a week ago.  They looked so happy
together.  She wiped a tear from her face.  She vowed to put him in the
past.  She would not cry over him ever again.  Although she loved him
dearly, he didn’t love her back, and she had to accept it.

Her mother poked her head in saying “Michelle, you have a visitor!”

Michelle’s heart filled with hope as she rushed over to her door to let
her visitor in.  She frowned in disappointment, it was only Erin.  Not
that she wasn’t going to miss her friend Erin, but she was hoping it
was Jesse.

“Well nice to see you too!” Said Erin sarcastically.

Michelle sighed.  “I’m sorry, I was just hoping you were someone else.”

Erin gave Michelle a sympathetic hug as she began to cry.

“I’m going to go clean up my face,” said Michelle as she sniffled going
into her bathroom.

Making sure Michelle was out of site, Erin slipped something into
Michelle’s purse.  She stuffed it deep down so that Michelle wouldn’t find
it until she was at least on the airplane.

Michelle kissed her family goodbye and hugged Erin.

Any minute now, he should be coming down the street.  He’ll jump out in
front of me and confess his love for me.  Jesse, where are you?  Don’t
you love me?  Please come get me!

To Michelle’s dismay, Jesse did not come to her rescue.

Michelle sighed as she looked at the ground below her.  Picking up her
purse, she rummaged through it looking for her chap stick.  Inside she
found an envelope addressed to her.  Instantly, she recognized Jesse’s
handwriting.  Heart racing, she opened the letter and began to read
quickly.

Dear Michelle,

Words can’t express the way I feel right now.  If I knew that not
telling you about the election would break us up, then I would have told you
from the first day I decided to run.  I can’t imagine how hurt you must
have been when you heard that horrible rumor.  It’s not true.  I love
you with all my heart.  I would even drop out of this election to prove
it to you and everyone else.  I wanted so badly to come to your house
and sweep you up into my arms and kiss away your pain, but I knew that
if I did that, you wouldn’t go do your treatments in Switzerland.  Yes,
Erin told me about it just yesterday.  You need to go do this sweet
heart.  I love you and I can’t let you stay here because of me.  I will
wait for you until you come home.  Please don’t forget about me and think
of me.  I’ll be thinking of you every day until you return home.

I love you Michelle,

Jesse McCartney

Michelle could not hold back her tears.  But they were happy tears.  He
did love her after all, and he would be waiting for her when she got
home.

The end!
