THE SIMON MASTRANTONE GROUP - I've rejoined the Mastrantone Backing Group since moving back from London at Christmas.

These are a couple of new songs we did last night. The drums are a bit quiet, but you can get the vibe.

no-one i know lives in hillfields anymore (2.82M) - i like this one; it is almost as if the coral could've recorded it.
still (2.15M) - a bit depressing, but in a good way.

Check out the video as well! - This is not the final edit, but it looks great. We were generally just running around the City being chased by something.

If you're having trouble downloading flash 9, then go here: www.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html

Here is a live recording of the new-look set recorded at the Kambar in Cambridge. It was quite a funny gig, because we went on stage at about half past midnight and I was totally pissed up on Red Stripe by this point, but I was playing awesome. And there was some good chat with the crowd and cake as well.

first_10_minutes.mp3 (9.91M) - si intro, drowse prologue, midnight walks,
second_10_minutes.mp3 (9.49M) - dirty crystal ball, drowse epilogue,
third_10_minutes.mp3 (9.49M) - first noise, the priest,
fourth_10_minutes.mp3 (7.01M) - don't take advantage, sing a song of petulance.

THE CLUSTER BOMB FAIRIES - welcome one and all. the cluster bomb fairies (a.k.a. the cacophony) were a rock band around in 2002 and 2003ish (when i was in it anyway), based in birmingham, england. please download our demos, because they're damn good. i've also put on some live recordings. click on the links below, and if that doesn't work, right click, then "save target as". i've put on some 60 second samples of lower quality, if you want to hear them first innit. please leave a note in the guestbook if there are any dead links. (all songs written by simon mastrantone (apart from don't take advantage, that's some cover by jonny winter i think)).

YOUR SUBTLE WORDS DEMO - recorded over summer 2003 at si's dad's house in the spare room. the drums and bass were recorded together, then we put them on the computer and si went away to put on the guitar and vocals.

sarah_and_the_great_glass_safety_net.mp3 (4.07M) - this is a nice chilled out song. there is an earlier version of it further down the page called "nicesong.mp3".

your_subtle_words.mp3 (5.84M) - this is the song of kings.

MISC RECORDINGS - all these songs were "recorded live", (i.e. all playing at the same time instead of some lame cheating way of recording) which is nice. these are from the same recording sessions as the demo above over summer 2003.

twirling.mp3 (4.57M) - twirling_sample.mp3 (0.22M) - these first 3 songs were done live on a four track, and they actually sound quite good. twirling is a bit depressing, but in a good way.

song_of_kings.mp3 (6.64M) - song_of_kings_sample.mp3 (0.25M) - this song is really called "your subtle words", but it is the song of kings. it kind of rocks with a crazy extended ten pence solo. this is definitely the album version.

felicity_s_ghost.mp3 (3.97M) - felicity_s_ghost_sample.mp3 (0.28M) - slightly more jazzy, but still cooks.

don_t_take.mp3 (2.70M) - don_t_take_sample.mp3 (0.29M) - cooking blusey tune with a phat solo (live at the flapper).

SONGS ABOUT PERMANENCE DEMO - recorded semi-profesionally over sept 2002. it sounds wicked aiiii.

dead_bird.mp3 (3.44M) - dead_bird_sample.mp3 (0.19M) - really nice song until the middle section, then it turns mean and nasty.

jurassic_trifids.mp3 (4.75M) - jurassic_trifids_sample.mp3 (0.43M) - GM crops are bad.

hope_vacuum.mp3 (3.88M) - hope_vacuum_sample.mp3 (0.29M) - this one is a bit moody. it is about four songs for the price of one.

MORE MISC - the rest of these recordings were done over a dictaphone, but they still sound great.

nicesong.mp3 (1.41M) - very mellow and nice. i always feel like travelling to iceland when we play this song.

nicesongnovox.mp3 (1.32M) - an instrumental version.

juniorschool.mp3 (1.35M) - bluesy rockin stuff and something about going to junior school.

funkybitchnovox.mp3 (1.00M) - an early version of don't take advantage of me (early, as in the first time we played it).

mohammedmyfriend.mp3 (1.76M) - a tori amos cover.
